You can't go wrong with any of the above, but if I had to pick just one, it would be the Springfield.

I chose the FAL (other choice was a PTR) for its ability to eat more ammo (dirty nasty stuff like cavim and indian/paki stuff) and the adjustable gas port. Check the marketplace at falfiles.com since deals often show up there before being posted on the gb auctions.

Turn it into small bills and tuck it away. SHTF real soon in my opinion.

I really like the Springfield also. Zulu has one of those cute little cut down versions that look darn cool! "Sweet" is the term for you younger folks.[8D]

Thanks, but, if I get a battle rifle, I want the full-dress version, not a shorty (SOCOM, FAL PARA, PTR91K)...and I have a Garand, an IH--a safe queen. At 200m, it can't keep a 12" group to save it's life. I don't want to rebarrel it, since all the numbers match...

And, M-1 carbines are cute, but not a "TRUE" rifle, IMHO. If I can't reasonably expect a hit at 400m, it's not interesting to me.

And, yes, I've fired at ranges above 400m; I'm not good, but I'm getting better. I'd like a rifle that will improve with me...

    I like:

    -Variable blow-back adjustment

-Overall design feel and function (fired both and liked the FAL over the HK)

-Rarity (mine is an early FN)

-I knew DWS would make more comparisons between HK owners and Melissa Ethridge if I showed up with another HK.

OK, I'm not sure what that refers to...but I sense it CAN'T be good...

And--that is a beaut of a FAL. Thanks for posting your info.

I'd go with the DSA FAL all day long. I've heard so many mixed reviews about what sounds like sporadic quality coming out of Springfield Arms that I would be hesitant to buy one of their rifles. I'm sure Springfield makes some good guns and I was thoroughly impressed with the torture test I saw on the M1A while watching the Outdoor Channel last week but word-of-mouth is biggest in my book.

I've shot an STG-58 that was made from mix-and-match parts and was shooting persimmons fruit off the top of Gatorade bottles at 100 yards. The DSA FAL has a heck of a reputation and has to be just as accurate if not more.

    Go with the DSA FAL.
