Retirement philosophy?
I am planning on retiring in a couple years when I turn 50. I'll move up to our place in the mountains and open a fix-it shop part time to keep from getting bored. Going to get a small rv that can pull the harleys and travel around the country for a few years visiting forum members I have been wanting to see in person for one reason or another. Gonna record one last album before my hands totally crap out on me. Gonna build a small personal still. Gonna have a big birthday bash up on my mountain every year bbqing whole hogs and getting rid of the leftovers from the still. I think it is total bs to wait so long to retire and then spend most of your time going to the doctors for one thing or another.

No suggestions here!
I waited five years too long and retired at 55.
Only rules are:
1. Do it YOUR way.
2. There are no other rules.0 -
Yep, Big Daddy - you are just one year faster than how I did it...I retired at 51. I am enjoying it. Busier than I was when gainfully employed, but am more relaxed besides. Health is actually gettin better right now, and I "eats when I is hungry, and drinks when Iz dry" - suits me, and to h e double hockystix to anyone who thinks I oughta do something I don't wanna, or not do that which I am doing. 0 -
Already in my "mountain place" semi-retired when I was 32. We piddle around with "work" for about 8-10 hours a week. Bought the house next door about 20 years ago. Use it for my "shop" to dink around in when I feel like it. I too thought it was BS to wait until 60-70 to retire. Been doing it this way for more than 2 decades (my how time flies) [:0] hope to do it for MANY more.
Good luck.0 -
Good plan. The company that now sends me a paycheck wanted someone to mentor the youngsters, and deal with unusual problems, so i am still working (altho retired from two other careers) Will do this another 5 yrs, or until i get tired of it, or they get tired of me- whichever comes first. I have time (and money) to do things i enjoy while I can. You can sleep when you're dead- [:p] You have the right idea of retirement. 0 -
