What's with all the italian reproductions
.. Just curious why there's so many listings for italian reproductions with BIN prices higher than that of an original?

These are faithful reproductions, not cheap knock-offs.
The amount of hand-fitting and attention to detail by the Uberti people is, to most folks, worth the money.
Keep in mind, Italians have been making firearms for over 500 years.
They've got a lot of tradition and experience working for 'em.0 -
I've shot an Uberti reproduction - really, really nice shooter. I think it was a 45 revolver single action. (we had a pair) 0 -

Mr Uberti was originally worked for and is from the Beretta factory. The Uberti factory is right across the street from the Beretta factory and is now owned by Beretta.
If you were able to find an original model firearm in the condition the Uberti reproductions are in they would more then likely cost ten times or more the Ubertis sell for.0 -
I've been leery of the italian reproductions--especially the single actions and I'll tell you why.
Watch the Single Action Shooting Society boards. They can be very telling at times. I've heard of more people through those boards who had to send a Beretta ("Uberty") single action revolver off to a gunsmith in order to get it to function right. Either the timing was way off or the action was "gritty". It always seems, one way or another, that some italian repro is being sent to a gunsmith because it came from the factory like cr@pola.0 -
HA - yes actually both of the two I shot had to be sent off for timing, but after that, they were perfect. 0 -
But it's not just Uberti, & sure Uberti manufactures quality products, but there's also Pedersoli & so many others. There's also Traditions, EuroArms, NavyArms, CVA & others that may not be Italian. My comment wasn't so much about Italian, but of reproductions in general.
While I do own a couple reproductions myself, I think sometimes that reproductions look just too cheesy & fake in comparison to an original. Reproductions are great in that you can actually shoot them wheras shooting an original period item may not be safe nor possible, but I just don't see any justification in spending $1200 for a knockoff when I can find several originals for $750 - $1600.
Actually, one item I saw in particular had a BIN of $1200 when reproduction manufacturer sells them for $550?? Since when do people think a repro has collectors markup value? I would think the selling prices of repros go down over the years, not up like an original.
Well, I suppose an 1851 Navy knockoff I bought from Dixie Gun Works for $150 several years ago I could now sell for $500, LOL.
Anyway, I see the value in a repro only as a functional shooter, & I often debate wether or not I should buy a reproduction Enfield 1853 or a another similar model & these would be great to shoot, but then I say to myself, the hell with that, I'll just buy an original. (Even though repros look so much nicer sometimes..)
Anyway, since we're talking about repros.. who do you think are good repro manufacturers & who do you think are junk manufacturers.0 -
Both of my Son's purchased Uberti Made Black Powder Revolvers and I was impressed with the quality of the workmanship and metals.
We cant wait to shoot them.0 -
