[:D]...All but two apply to me....and I grew up south of Chicago..
....When talking farm machinery, "combine" is both a noun and a verb.

you forgot that most work places and schools consider opening day of deer season a holiday. I though that was kinda cool when i moved up here. things are a lot different in north dakota. even for me and i came from south dakota. i lived in south dakota all my life (28 years)except for the last 3 years i moved to north dakota to work for bobcat and i never had work offer me opening day of deer season off. i usually had to beg and plea to get it off. up here they not only offer it off. the school have it off too.

Here is one that will hit home with a lot of you...

    swede

You grew up in rural North Dakota if . . .
You know how to polka, but never tried it sober.
You know what knee-high by the Fourth of July means.
You know it is traditional for the bride and groom to go bar hopping between the reception and wedding dance.
You know the difference between "Green" and "Red" farm machinery, and would fight with your friends on the playground over which was better!
You hear someone use the word "uff-dah" and you don't break into laughter.
You or someone you know was a dairy princess at the county fair.
You know that "combine" is a noun.
You let your older siblings talk you into putting your tongue on a steel post in the middle of winter.
You think Lutheran and Catholic are THE major religions.
You know that "creek" rhymes with "pick."
Football schedules, hunting season and harvest are all taken into consideration before wedding dates are set.
Saturday you go to your local bowling alley.
There was at least one kid in your class who had to help milk cows in the morning. Phew!
You have driven your car on the lake.
You can make sense of "upnort" and "batree."
Every wedding dance you have ever been to has featured the hokey pokey and the chicken dance.
Your definition of a small town is one that only has one bar.
The local gas station sells live bait.
At least twice a year some part of your home doubles as a meat processing plant.
You think that the start of deer season is a national holiday.
Pop is the only name for soda.
You actually understand these jokes and will forward them to all your North Dakota friends!

Sounds like if you substitute "Wisconsin" for "North Dakota" you wind up in exactly the same spot.

They say "Uffdah" down in Arkansas? How often do you polka? And, at what point can you drive on water in an automobile?

    You forgot one.

You're from N.D. if, while outdoors in January, you've seen pee freeze in mid arc...during a "warm" spell.

That's the corn! Doesn't everyone know that? It's gotta be knee-high by the Fourth of July. That's a good gauge of how good the harvest is going to be.

quote:Saturday you go to your local bowling alley.
The bowling alley always has the best greasy hamburgers and pizza. Not those modern whiz-bang bowling alleys with modern conveniences. I'm talking about the ones with green carpet from the 70's whose walls are yellow from smoke. Good grub. Bowling alleys are/were some the the best greasy spoons around.

quote:Your definition of a small town is one that only has one bar.
Even the SMALLEST towns/villages/unincorported townships have two bars. Every northern hick knows that. You get yourself kicked out of one for a couple of months and you have to have another bar to go to until your off probation for the other one. You conveniently get yourself kicked out of the second bar the Saturday before your probation is up for the other bar.

quote:The local gas station sells live bait.
I thought this was normal. You have to be picky. A gas station gets a reputation REAL fast if they sell dead worms.

A lot of this stuff is true about Iowans too.

The author forgot one thing though. You have to have your potatoes planted before Good Friday!
