Aging Texas Boy Sings Again
George Jones was born in Saratoga, Texas in 1931. He was raised there and in Amelia, (now Beaumont), Texas. He was a Marine during Korea, and this song is about his Band of Brothers:

Went to the wall once. Brought back too many things I didn't want to recall and too many memories of good men I'll never see again. Glad I went, but I won't be going back. I guess I'm just getting too old to put myself through that anymore. I want to remember better times and smiling face of friends who were willing to put thier life in your hands or accept your life in theirs.
All I recalled while reading those names was watching some of the bravest men in the world writhing on the ground screaming for their momma or watching them bleed out but still trying to hold it together and stay alive long enough for help, and nothing I could do to help.
I guess some folks go to the wall and have good memories of good friends from the past. I don't know why it affected me the way it did, but I didn't like it and don't want to do it again.

He Dog, go to the Middle East Conflict memorial in Marseilles, Illinois. Not as many names but it keep growing every day. Return To the Wall occurs in June every year. Bikers from all over the country attend. This Memorial is also very powerful. Bshooter 0 -
Hey guys. I know the feeling like so many of you do, and "overwhelming" sums it all up. I spent a couple of weeks in D.C., and I buried myself most everyday in the national archives doing research. I guess I got too old and sentimental before going there to visit the NAM Memorial. This new song that George sings, coupled with your comments, brings on for me a better perspective for any war memorial or military headstone.
George at 76 is still going strong with his Jones Boys, although he is not busting strings on guitars anymore, but rather just singing to the mike. He has recently cut a new album with Merle Haggard to compliment their Yesterday's Wine album they made 25 years ago. If you get a chance to see him perform, and you like country music, don't pass it up, it might be his last big tour.
