Money Order Question - UPDATE
I bought some fishing line off of eBay last week and paid with a money order. I mailed it the 27th of March and I just got a message from the seller saying he hadn't gotten the payment yet. He's in Missouri so I would assume that it should have been there by now. Is there a way to do anything besides get another money order and pay twice for the one product? I'm calling the post office today, but any info would be great.

If you have kept your receipt I believe it can be traced to see if it has been cashed.

I alway's get delivery conformation when using the mail for purchase's and sending item's. Insurance on some thing's too. 0 -

...dont know where you live (west of the Rockies?) but, Ive found that when I mail anything that is going west of the Rockies from here...it SLOWS way down once it gets to the Rockies...maybe the same going east across the Rockies.
...Maybe because it has to go "up" the mountains..[:D][:D]
...I have several seller friends that live west of the Rockies (CA,AZ) and they have noticed it slowing down too.
..Then again its the mail...or maybe you have an antsy seller.

3 months is good, usually takes 6. Money orders cannot be insured, but sending with delivery confirmation means the PO pays a little more attention to getting it there and gives you proof the recipient actully got it. Now there is not much you can do except give it a couple more days, send another if it does not arrive, and make a claim.
Mailing with delivery confirmation costs about $4.55 if you use a business envelope, but I recently learned that if the envelope is 3/4" thick it only costs $1.50. I now send money orders in padded envelopes and save about $3.00.0 -
[8D]--Thats pretty true, the USPS M.O. Cancellation form states 60 days for confirmation (usally much longer than that)---
--HOWEVER if the M.O. is cashed during that time period-You are STUCK !!The USPS can't help you with the legality of the recipient on the other end--

Bear in mind that the last huge snowstorm shut down mail service for abour three days, perhaps its just delayed. I would give it a few more days as the post office is just now catching up. 0 -

...you mean if you mail with one of those padded envelopes you get at the PO(?) it's THAT much cheaper?? How much is the padded envelope? That include confirmation?..thanks...[;)]0 -

If you want to ensure that important instruments like checks or money orders, or other paper documents get to the intended person send them "Certified Mail". You may add to this service with a "Return Receipt Requested" or other options like "Deliver to Addressee Only" once the certified service has been ordered. I often use this method so as to ensure greater security for my mail, and thus the best service the PO has to offer. If sending items that have a value such as jewelry, guns, etc., then send them "Insured Mail" or if you like go "Registered Mail".
Certified Mail and Insured Mail requires that a signed record be kept on file at the receiving post office and at the post office of address. Registered Mail is the PO's most secure type of mail, in that it requires that it be signed for by each and every employee or person that touches it, until it is signed for by the addressee or their agent. It is a much slower mail service than Certified or Insured Mail, but more secure and more expensive.0 -
Colt, Yep. Sent a MO in a business envelope with delivery confirmation. Cost $4.50 including priority mailing. Went back a week later to return a pair of grips that were miles from the ones I bid on. Had them in a padded envelope (cheaper at Staples 10 at a time). Cost $1.50. I said, "wait a minute...I just..." I was told that basically if it was under 3/4" thick I had to go priority, but over it could go first class and was cheaper. Since then I have been sending money orders in a padded envelope with an empty Altoids box for $1.50. 0 -
Cost for a First Class letter, (with check or money order enclosed), weighing 1 ounce or less is $.39. If you purchase Certified Mail, which is for important things like paper documents, to include, checks or money orders, its cost is $2.40. Therefore, for $2.79 one can purchase this class and type security for their letter mail. Now, if one wants just delivery confirmation with their letter mail as described, then the PO requires that you purchase the more expensive Priority Mail service for your letter mail, which comes to $4.05 for the subject letter's cost, plus $.50 for Delivery Confiramtion service which comes to $4.55. To my knowledge, both types of mail as noted above can be tracked for delivery confirmation, but one has a total cost of $2.79, while the other costs $4.55 for, basically, a one day shorter transit time, and oftentimes, First Class Mail is delivered every bit as soon as Priority Mail. 0 -
