Indiana lifetime handgun permit

I tried to apply for this as soon as it came available but the local police said they wouldn't accept an application until closer to time for my current permit to expire. It almost slipped my mind. Current permit expires next week and I got things mailed off to the State today.

Under the old law a properly processed application automatically extended the expiration of an existing permit until a response from the State Police was received. The local officer was not sure if that is still the case or not.

Anyway, I don't have to get fingerprinted every four years anymore.

    I've got little more than a year left on mine and I can't wait to get the life-time license. Glad we can get it.

    I got my lifetime permit in July. It took about 8 weeks to process it then.

    The time is supposed to be extended Henry, just like under the old applications according to my local office. I hope they are correct.

    Mine doesn't come up until next year, and I was told, like you, that you had to be within a few months of expiration in order to apply for the new lifetime PPP.

    Oregon and WA states don't have the lifetime option. That would be nice but they like the fees every few years.

    I'm sure that the processing time more than outweighed the fees collected for local police departments. Lifetime permits were just introduced 1 July '06 here.

    With a current and valid license the fees for lifetime personal protection are $41 local and $60 to the State Police.

    Apparently the new license looks exactly like the old ones except the color of the paper. I would have thought they would be made of plastic or something.

    Lifetime permits are not an exemption to NICS.

    Which is why the pro-gun forces fought to make our CWP a 5-year permit, with no requirement for new prints, and no renewal class.

    Still exempt from NICS for purchases.

    Another reason for me to to move back to Indiana. [:D]

    Is there a site that shows what other states have this option? Since Packing.org is gone I don't know if any other site is compiling this type of info.

    Im from the fort wayne area and got hired by toyota as an engineer-they assigned me to the fremont CA plant for 9 months then i get to go to the evansville plant-cant wait for the day in june I get to leave this crappy state

    Apply as soon as you can it is taking a long time to get the Lifetime permits back.

    I have a problem. I will be 66 years old in December and have a heart problem. Mine expires next year. Looks like I'm gonna lose money on this deal! [:(!] Where in hell was that lifetime when I was 21? BTW Henry it used to be every 2 years.
