Get a oil change every 3000? or not
Whats the consenus on the 3000mi oil change. The more I hear things from people, 3000mi is more of a mechanics gimic to get you in more. Most cars I have been hearing only need it every 5000 or so. I have a 06 Monte Carlo SS, and the car has a gauge which tells you when it needs it, and if I go by that I only need it like every 7k. Any thoughts

On my cycle, I change the filter with every other oil change. 1500 mile rotation on the filter, 3000 mile rotation on the filter.

If you reuse the filter, aren't you just making your fresh oil dirty as it goes through the dirty filter? I would think it to be better to change the filter at 1500 and the oil at 3000.

Facoty recomendation, oil doesn't get that dirty after 1500 anyway. The bike has 33,000 miles on it, and has been treated this way since new, so I figured why change. When you pull the filter, all of the oil coume out with it.0 -

I never change the oil cause I only keep my cars for 12,000 miles.

My Ram will be a quart low at about 5,000 miles.
That's when I change the filter and top it off with 2 quarts of Mobil 1.
Goin' on 130,000 miles,so let's see,I started this routine at about 40,000 miles,so "some" of the oil has been in there for almost 90,000 miles.
No problems.

if your local shoe store told you you needed new shoes every 3 months, would you blindly buy them?
my honda had 242,000 miles on it and i only changed oil if something else broke first, like a fan belt or rad hose, and the local mech yelled at me! so, in its 17 years, i maybe changed the oil 10 times.
AND, when i sold it, it STILL wasnt burning oil.
my lawnmowers and power equipment are over 30 years old, still running. all i do is top them off. the bodies are rotted, but engines start first pull and dont burn oil. i clean the filters and top em off.0 -
I have always changed standard 5-30 or 10-30 oil around every 5,000 miles and synthetic oil(amsoil) once a year.

I usually get it changed at 2500 to 3500 miles, and have at times gone over 4000. 0
