Back From Dove Hunt
...and had a good time. It was hot in Yuma......112 one day, but we were out of the field by 10am. Visited all the family and a lot of old friends. Visited family grave sites. Everyone was still there, including my great-grandparents. Ate mexican food until I crapped. Seems to always happen that way. [:)][:)]
Made it to Mesa and to the new Bass Pro store. It was good. I only spent a couple hundred there. I think I like Cabela's in Glendale better. Maybe it's because I tend to lean toward hunting rather then fishing......nowadays [^][:D]
Anyway, I'm going back next year, despite requests from some of the people I visited. [}:)][}:)]

The Dove Wagon

One day we hide behind the cotton modules to blast the doves.

After the first 1/2 hour the first day.

My son and his Ithaca 600

Here is the burro I used to tote the shells I needed.

What time do you hunt down there?

Hey Zip,........you're not retired anymore?[:D][;)] 0 -

Zip...In Yuma, you can only hunt in the A.M. So, we started shooting at daylight. [:)][:)]

Yep - that's what I recall. We used to hunt down there by the river, years and years ago.
They'd perch down there in old dead trees after their previous afternoon's eat and watering.
Always bagged our limit.

Zip....We planned to hunt near the river like in the past. However, these days, it's a little hazardous. People are often shot at from across the river from mexico now in that area, so we didn't feel it was worth it. Too many other places that were better hunting anyway.

My God, I love that place!! I love lots of places I've been, but Yuma is one of the top ones.
Hmm, I was thinking of Mississippi, now I'm thinking of the derned Gila River and the Territorial Prison Museum..Also the '55 Murcury convertible I owned when I was stationed there at MCAS. Oh, and the drunken visits to San Luis..I lost my..I learned about women there..0 -

oldgunner.....Born and raised in Yuma and worked at MCAS for the USBR for 10 years. Bought my first rifle at Stahls Sporting Goods on main street in Yuma in '61. No background checks. No waiting periods. No nothing. Just gave Mr. Stahl my $100+ for the Model 70 and walked out the door.....those were the days. [^][^]
Oh yeah, been to San Luis many times, but I learned about women across the river in Bard......[}:)][;)]

Yep, I remember Mr Stahl, and his wife. In fact..I bought MY first gun there too. Well, the first I bought myself. My dad gave me one or two before that. 0 -
Ya'll did have a great morning. Who was top gun for the day? You or your son? [:)] 0 -
Kimi....I cannot tell a lie. Afterall, I taught him to shoot.
Uh, he did. [:I][:I]
oldgunner....I bought my first Frontier Scout there too. Those were my quick draw days.....[^][^]

Actually, I was rushing around here at 2:30am trying to get on the road at 3:10am but didn't make it until 3:30am. Damn near broke my heart. [:(][:(] It would been great to go running out and jumping in the old Dodge like they did the boxcar, but it's just as well. I might have busted something and ruined the whole trip......[}:)][;)]

I'm sure there are some reasons for being second best, but getting old is probably not not one of them. [:)] Have a great day.0
