WHEREAS, the Legislature has designated the third Monday in January as the day for the observance of the birthdays of ROBERT E. LEE and DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., and under the provisions of Section 3-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, is a legal holiday in the State of Mississippi;
THEREFORE, all officers and employees of the State of Mississippi are authorized and empowered, at the discretion of the executive head of the department or agency, to close their respective offices in observance of the holiday on

I can't figure that out either. It seems that this celebration was for one year only. Maybe a test-like activity that may have backfired. If this is the case,I would not doubt that the feds might have threatened the State of Mississippi with something like withholding federal highway funds, if they tried to celebrate a white man's birthday again...especially one idolized by so many American citizens like Robert E. Lee. You know how the Lincoln Cultists and other Secular-Progressives try to make southern folks look like Hitler's Nazis. 0
