Biden's Worst Gaffe Yet
First it was Senator Joe Biden's remark about Indian Americans:
"I've had a great relationship. In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian Americans - moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking." (link)
Then it was his comment about why voters in southern states won't write his candidacy off by thinking of him as yet another Senator of a Northeast liberal state:
"You don't know my state. My state was a slave state. My state is a border state. My state is the eighth largest black population in the country. My state is anything from a northeast liberal state," Biden said. (link)
Next it was his comment about Barack Obama:
"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy, ... I mean, that's a storybook, man." (link)
Today it was his remarks about Washington DC African American children:
After a lengthy critique of Bush administration education policies, Biden attempted to explain why some schools perform better than others -- in Iowa, for instance, compared with the District. "There's less than 1 percent of the population of Iowa that is African American. There is probably less than 4 or 5 percent that are minorities. What is in Washington? So look, it goes back to what you start off with, what you're dealing with," Biden said. He went on to discuss the importance of parental involvement in reading to children and how "half this education gap exists before the kid steps foot in the classroom." (link)
Biden's campaign did the best they could:
His campaign quickly issued a statement saying he meant to indicate that the disadvantages were based on economic status, not race. (link)
The problem is Biden didn't mention "disadvantages were based on economic status." He said plainly that Iowa schools perform better because they don't have African American children unlike Washington DC's schools. Surely the Senator knows that Iowa has poor children in their schools.
Of course, the likely and probably accurate reply is that Iowa schools don't have nearly the percentage of economically disadvantaged students that DC has in theirs. But Biden's problem is deeper.
Biden easily frames his statements on social and economic issues in racial terms. In this case, poverty and its effects take an African American face. A "fresh" or new African American politician gets framed in hygienic terms. The Indian American accents of 7-11 workers somehow require that patrons have the accent also, and it's a claim about which he is "not joking." Of course, he wasn't serious (the accent is no barrier to making purchases), but his consciousness of the accent makes him feel he needs one too.
None of these statements betray any kind of malice. In fact, they indicate a feeling of good will and sensitivity to the needs of minority groups in the USA. But Biden's racial malapropisms are surprising since he is one of the most articulate elected officials serving in the US Congress and, notwithstanding his run for the presidency, he finds them irresistible.
I doubt, however, that Biden's latest gaffe will affect his results in Iowa. Although his campaign is encouraged that poll results indicate that his support has moved to 5% from 3% among Iowan voters, his overall percentage still leaves him in the "also ran" category and the improvement is probably within the margin of error. Obscurity damns a candidacy to defeat, but it does make mistakes like gaffes largely irrelevant and scarcely noticeable.

If this does not trigger HUD devlopment and bussing (reolocation) of minotities, specifically blacks, like they do in the south, into all white communities of Iowa, nothing will. Belay that, Iowa is in the Midwest.

Yet another example of how Dimocraps are the first ones to use race as a separator/definer and pander to the race pimps in the same breath.
Biden is a loudmouthed pinhead that deserves neither praise nor reward for his self-promotional stint in Congress, and should be replaced with someone that appreciates America for its' freedoms instead of its' "diversity".
Besides, a gaffe is when you make a mistake unintentionally; Biden does this sort of thing every day, on purpose.0 -
