War protests
I often sit back here at work watching the news and can't beleive how amazingly bias it is. I always see folks protesting the war but I never seen anyone supporting the war except Bush on the news.
Ok so the war is unpopular. Still there are people that support the war. Why don't they give them any coverage at all.
Same situation with guns, always negative never positive.

I loathe most of what the media espouses with but IMO, the media MUST be liberal by definition. Anything else and we would never, ever get any glimpse into what the actual truth might possibly be. By that, I mean that IT (truth) would simply be told to us and affirmed by those in charge as "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". The fact that the media is so hideously liberal at least keeps those who would aspire to rule with an iron fist somewhat accountable to the rest of us. I dislike Liberals for the most part but I'm ever wary and suspicious of Conservatives. 0 -
Well, all I know is that a lot of our soldiers are dying and I dont see much benefit. Iraqi oil? We dont get oil from Iraq, we get it from South America and Alaska.
Reduced tensions in the middle east? Gimme a break; Israel and Iran are poised to tear each other apart, and the other Arab countries are none too pleased about having a large US presence close to them.
Giving the Iraqis freedom? Bull. What the hell do I care about Iraqi freedom? What about North Koreans? They're in even more dire circumstances than Iraqis. Or what about Darfur, Sudan? What about any of these other third world poopholes? When are we going to "liberate" them?
I don't agree with interfering in other countries business. If they want a harsh dictator, thats their perogative. We rose up against our tyrants (the British) and defeated them. They can do the same if they really want to.
We dont need the outside world, and clearly the outside world doesn't need or want us. So I say bleen em. Stop playing the international policeman, and let sovereign countries fend for themselves (which is kinda the idea of sovereignity).0 -
The Liberal media serves an important purpose, true. But unfortunately, this purpose became severely perverted around the time of William Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer, when they realized that most Americans value entertainment more than truth.
Truth is, 90% of America doesn't care whether their news is truth or utter fiction, so long as it is fascinating, messy, and entertaining.
And it just so happens that Liberal policies and issues, which have always been 99% emotional pandering 1% actual substance, dovetail nicely with that concept.
Conservatives don't do well on network news because the harsh reality of the world doesn't mesh well with the Average American's mind. Think of Guy Montag reading Arnold's Dover Beach to his wife and her friends in Fahrenheit 451. Same exact reaction.0 -

I'm talking about Conservative issues on a (theoretical) non-slanted platform (be it TV or print), not Conservative issues on a clearly Conservatively-slanted network.
Ceterus paribus, on said theoretical unbiased news platform, the Conservative issues would quickly be subsumed by the Liberal ones, since Liberal issues are generally accepted far more positively by people who favor flash over substance.
By orienting their network entirely towards Conservatives, Fox News has (foolishly) played into this naturally occurring phenomenon by openly slanting their focus towards the right, and not even attempting to temper their bias. They are, in essence, saying "Fine, you want to be biased? I'll be biased too! Then we'll be equal!"
In my opinion, this ham-fisted attempt to forcibly re-balance the equation accomplishes nothing, and is akin to trying to catch a pig in the mud; you both end up dirty, but he lives there already.0 -
