Were the Irish the first to land in America?

Interesting article. Although for REAL proof, they would need to find a pile of empty stone whiskey bottles. [:D]

Hey Allen ol' buddy ol' pal, what about when I came by at 3:00 AM? Was that jus' the milk of kin'ness you poured us? 0 -
Being both Norwegian and Irish, I find this a fascinating discovery. We have long know that Eric the Red's son Leif was the first European in North America. We were just not aware that he came here in search of Irish booty. 0 -
The Vikings were probably the first Europeans to land in the USA.When the Maflower came over it had a mixture of Welsh and English on board. In fact the captain was Welsh. The Irish didnt start coming over in droves untill the mid to late 1800s.A lot of the people that came from Ireland prior to that were actually from Wales,Scotland and England. They were farmers who went to Ireland to take advantage of the good land for farming but as it petered out they moved on to the USA.
Have to ask this question about Columbus,he didnt get here did he,I thought he got to the West Indies and turned left.So why Columbus day.0 -
A friend of mine said the Polish were the first to land. They took turns swimming while the other one walked on the scum. [:0] Just relaying the joke. 0 -
If aboriginal people everywhere, be it Australia, N. America, S. America, Africa, etc. had never been disturbed by the English, Welsh, Spanish, Irish, Germans, Skandinavians, etc., how many more centuries do you suppose it would've been before they had architecture on a par with the Greeks, Romans, Asians or understanding of algebra, geometry, chemistry, metalurgy, the internal combustion engine, Coca-Cola, etc.???????? 0 -

You probably would not prefer the term honky unless you're, uh, well, you know.
No offense intended tacking1. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.0 -

But it wasn't where it is now, then.
So...it doesn't count.

I am confused, Doug.
Is the Irish booty not now where it was then, or is North America not now where is was then? If, it was not then where it is, what was there then, or does it matter if there was not here then or now?

Thank you, Doug.
I have been on pins and needles this past 3 plus hours, and now have closure.
Best to you and your family this Thanksgiving.

Though they tried many times with ever larger vessels, the Irish never made it to the New Land across the seas. In those days ships were made of wood and wood makes a good fire and you can't run a still without a good fire. So they never made it past the point when they had dismantled and burned too much of their ship to continue. They did have a very good time failing though, and that is the curse and the charm of the Irish. 0 -
