Quite true. Many Blacks in Africa owned slaves. One warring tribe would attack another and use the capives as slaves and often sell them. Not to mention the Blacks that were involved in gathering slaves for sale and transport to the new world.0 -
Always gets me when the white man is always blamed totally for the slave trade,he did have a hand in it but what about all the arabs and black africans captured and sold these slaves.What about the mexicans that came into california and probably other areas and enslaved the American indian.What about a dimo like bird who was a robe wearing member of the kkk.No one ever blames them for there part in the segrgation and slavery issue.But I blame bush its all his fault 0 -

The tragedy of the Acadians being forced from their homes was immortalized in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's epic poem "Evangeline." However, that brief poem could not give all the details of the hardships endured. Contrary to popular belief, very few of the Acadians went directly to Louisiana. Many Acadians escaped the deportation orders and simply went further into the woods, remaining in what is now Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Others were deported to cities up and down the Atlantic seaboard. Still more Acadians were sent to Santo Domingo and other Caribbean islands (These are the ones that ended up as slaves)(and just another reason why Arkadians Hate Slavery)while some returned to France. From those locations, thousands went on to Louisiana in later years, some returned to what is now Nova Scotia, and many more simply settled down in their new locations, wherever that happened to be. John Overall, b. circa 1735 in Prince William VA m. Francis Whitledge
John Overall, b. circa 1701 in VA m. Mary Elliott
William Overall, b. circa 1680 IN va Mary Jones
This Overall family looks to have moved into Kentucky around 1800 and settled in counties like Trimble on the Indiana border, plus nearby Bullit, and Nelson counties for some. A quick ancestry check of the census noted that most all of these Overall families owned anywhere from 2 to 6 slaves. It would not surprise me if the early Overall families of Virginia were large slave owners.
