Athletes and the National Anthem
What is it with athletes and the national anthem? Why is it that athletes and their coaches do not show respect to our national anthem, like the majority of the fans who stand proudly while looking at the flag with their hand over their heart? This, as the military color guards show our anthem and flag due honor? Instead we get what appears to be militants that look down at the deck. This kind of reminds me of the 1968 Olympics when our track team dishonored themselves by looking down when the national anthem was played, with their right fist held high in the air to symbolize Black Power.
This post came to mind as I watched the beginning of the San Antonio Spurs and Cleveland basketball game.

I agree with you kimi. I cannot stand their attitude anymore (NBA, MLB, etc). Even NASCAR isnt like it used to be.
I love High School football here is TX, but some schools are not even allowed to play the national anthem because it might offend someone.[:(]0 -

but a couple years ago we were supposed to PITY the ball players who had to sell their winnibago, vacation home etc. that they couldnt make the payments on cause they were on STRIKE!?
what about the fans who scrimped to be able to afford a ticket to watch their lousey buts while actually working theirs off to afford the rent/mortgage?

I was watching a baseball game During the National Anthem the players and coaches, were shuffling the feet, talking, not facing the flag. Hell the wont even pay attention. that was and Altanta Brave game. 0 -

It's what you guys want.
The attention and finances lavished on high school and college teams to get the best players they possibly can to win games.
It goes without saying that the team members and coaches don't put academics ahead of practice. They also get to cut class for any function related to the team. The teachers are "encouraged" to be as lienient as possible with them to ensure they don't drop their pencil whipped GPA and be disqualified to play.
Soooooooo, you get a winning player that is a functional illiterate, that has no clue about anything related to history, honor, tradition, right and wrong, pride, the flag, and the proper way to show respect to the symbols of this country.
A strong back and a weak mind. The public must have it's gladiators and scholastic morons need a function too. Can you imagine if all the money that went for college and high school sports was directed at learning and education? This country would easily regain it's preeminance in science and engineering.
So if you get pissed off watching the atheletes disrespect the flag, why don't you turn off ESPN and watch the Discovery Channel. It's better for you anyway.[;)]0 -

That has been creeping in to professional sports for a long time. You can date it to the Mexico Olympics when the two runners did the Black Power salute on the medal podium.
I quit watching basketball when the gold jewelry became a part of the uniform and dangling off the hoops after almost every shot started. Hoop dangling use to be illegal, now it's expected.
I quit watching football because of the idiotic Dance Fever that breaks out after almost every play now. I thought that was what the girls on the sidelines were for. They even put that crap in video games and it's starting to show up in even high school games now. That type of display should be illegal unsportsman like conduct. It has taken so much from the game. It's little better than a WWE wrestling spectacle now.0 -

Hey, P3, can we get you to be the president of my university, or maybe even system chancellor? You're absolutely right in your remarks. I've long had more than a little disdain for college sports, even at my class 3 school. I occasionally have athletes who try to whine their way into a closed class by saying something like, oh, "I'm an athlete." In response, I play dumb and ask something like, oh, "How does that relate to the fact that space in the class is gone?" They never know how to respond, especially when I add that I've already turned away three single moms trying to get educated to take care of their families. People say colleges and universities must have sports to attract students and donations, but I'll guarantee that 90% of those schools would still exist quite nicely, thank you, without sports. The main loss would be the "student" athletes, who primarily are there just to play sports anyway. Rant, rant, rant![}:)][}:)][}:)]0 -

A short while ago I actually wrote letters to Kevin Harvick, RCR raceing, and Harvicks sponcers about this very subject!
Before the race as the were doing the National Anthem, Fox tv showed Harvick playing grab A$$ with his wife durring the anthem!
I saw this as a total disrespect for our country and stated that fact in the emails!
Of course I never heard back from any of the people that I wrote![:(]0 -

I think that if most fans would act as you did here, git_r_done, then our pro teams might act like responsible citizens during such moments instead of adapting to the secular-progressive lifestyle that is erasing traditional American values.0
