Another Vet Gone
Go tommorow to my uncles' funeral. James Irvin Nichols, 90, passed
away Sunday morning. All I know about his service is: he was a truck
driver in the Army, in Europe during WWII. He didn't talk a whole lot about his service, but I remember a story of a P-47 shooting down an ME-109 that was strafing his column. Also, he was issued a M-3 Grease Gun and didn't much care for it. Another story was when they came under fire from a house near the road. They all bailed out of the vehicles, attacked the house, and if I remember correctly, the German soldier was captured. He stayed during the occupation of Germany, then went to Japan. I don't know when he went in, but he was 30 years old in 1945. He came back, married his sweetheart, and they had 44 years together before cancer took her.
His birthday and mine are the same, his in 1915, mine in 1955.
So long Uncle Irvin, I will miss your humor and advice, thank you for
your service to our USofA, you will be missed. Rest In Peace.

Just got word that my former brother in law passed away form Prostate Cancer at age 75 or so. He was married to my first wife's sister and lost an eye in Korea. Haven't seen him in in about 15 years, but always liked and respected him. RIP Norm Mackinzie,
