Went Turkey Hunting
Went turkey hunting this morning. Got to a ridge at 6am and crow called two gobbles. I move to the end of the ridge to find a Tom struting at the base about 200 yards away[:D], and hens yelping from the right in the forest. I drop down behind a pile of branches and retreive my slate call only to find that the striking sticks had fallen out of their holders from my thigh[:(], so useless slate call now. I then use the friction call on my shotgun and he gobbles. Minutes later a hen comes out of the bushes to my far right and spots me, flies off and the hen/hens and Tom stop responding to my call. See them later going over the far ridge, five hens and one tom. 10am get a hot Tom gobbling down the hill me. I set up continuing calling only to have him hang up and head the other way. I couldnt chase him because he was on private property, and I think he hung up because it was thick brush up the hill to me.
Didnt bag one but had a fun morning.
I did however catch nine ticks on my cloths.

Yep, everything you went through I have experinced at one time or the other, and maybe all on the same day. That is turkey hunting 101.[:D]
Our youth hunt starts this Saturday, and I will taking my 13 & 15 year old daughters out to try and get their birds.

Our season opened April 11 and it rained about a inch on the 10th and the wind was blowing about 40mph crappie Turkey weather. Couldn't get down the roads to our blind and the mud was terrible and then it rained again the 13th all day. Sunday the sun came out and it was a beautiful day and the turkeys were out in the middle of the green wheat and we were so wore out with the Mud and wind we just went home. Next time and the ticks were out in force.[:D][:D][:D][^] 0 -

Went out for a Scout tonight with my Buddy, Most fun i ever had! we seen 8 big birds on a full strut in a Hay field, we gave a few sequence of calls to them and got some gobbles it was great to hear, you all know about that. half hour later we had 5 jakes literally 10 yards away looking at us they didnt bust us but it was great to have em that close. we also saw about 30 hens as well. My scouting paid off i have my bird all picked out, Good luck to you guys! 0 -
Season opened yesterday here in MO. I got my gear and camper all ready to head out this weekend! My son and his buddy will be going
with me. They are fresh out of hunter safety school and first time hunters.0 -
Opening day, went out this morning and bagged this "Jake" within the first 1/2 hour. Going back out tomorrow for his daddy, "Tom".
