Buying from an individual

I recently bought an AR15 and a year ago I got a Glock from the same guy.(A good freind and former LEO) Some of my friends say if they are not in my name nobody knows I have them. Thats BS he was the origional purchaser so if anyone starts looking it wont take them long to find me. If a ban were to come into affect and I did a transfer I should be grandfathered in. What are your thoughts on doing a transfer into my name?

  A "transfer into your name"? Here's the scoop. It's not "in your name". The NICS check information is disposed of. The only record is that the gun was transferred from the factory or importer to the gun dealer that sold it to your friend. Somewhere in a cardboard box in a warehouse somewhere there is a yellow form with your friend's name on it saying that he purchased it from the dealer and the dealer has your friend's information written in his bound book. That's it.
  
  Your friends are ignorant. It's not in anybody's name. There's merely a paper trail that stops with your friend. I've sold several over the years (all at minor losses) to friends. I sold one to a college buddy's father back in 1996. I don't even remember his name and wouldn't be able to locate him if I wanted to.

  I always keep a record of who & when I bought & sold all my guns.
  If anything ever goes wrong you want proof of when you bought & sold all of your guns.
  About thiry-five years ago I sold a Luger on consignment. A few days later two cops showed up on my doorstep wanting to know where I got the gun since it was stolen & had been used in a shooting.
  I remembered I had bought the gun a few years before at a gun show & had payed with a personal check. The really good news was that I had written Luger & the serial number down in the corner of the check.
  I gave the check to the officers & that was the last I ever heard of it. I even got to keep the money from the sale.
