WWII movie, actually has a decent story line. People shooting, people getting shot. One sexy little French woman, and some cool guns. [:)]

The story is actually much more about the men in volved in the flag raising than the battle for Iwo Jima. I hope that the next one has more on the actual battle. I have been unable to find any theater that is showing either one. I had to rent this one & the other is not yet out for rentals.

Yeah. dad bought it and watched it. He was pretty upset about how poor it was. If any of you want to watch it, I advise renting it first.

I didn't care for it much either. It really jumps around a lot and the story line is poor. Don't think it did justice to the men on Iwo overall or the ones who raised the flag in particular.

Ditto what PC800 said. I bought the DVD. Not the worse $14.99 I've ever spent, but really close! The book is really good, but the movie just doesn't do it justice.

Watched it the other night and also watched "Departed".
Both a HUGE waste of time!
4 hours of my life that I'll never get back.[:(]

I wish it had focused on the battle itself and not the politics... boring! Most movie critics seemed to share that opinion.

Letters from Iwo Jima was a lot better in that regard, and is a much better movie overall.

I actually liked how it showed the war time politics and what our "gubment" will do to bring in money and that they will exploit anything in the process. I thought it was a great representation of our "fine" government.

Haven't seen it yet, but for Pacific Theatre action, the Movie "Wind Talkers" was great, true story too.

I just saw Letters from Iwo. It was everything Flags of our Fathers should have been. I usually don't like flashbacks but in this case I think they were well done & advanced the story by filling in the background of the people without jumping the storyline around.
I do wonder if the Japanese commander was acturately portrayed? They made him look like the reincarnation of Robert E. Lee.
The subtitles were easy to read & did not detract from the movie but I wonder if that will be the case on a smaller screen?
