Any dads in here that could give advice?
Well not only dads but anyone really, but here it goes. My dad earlier this year for my birthday in May said he'd either take me on a fishing trip this summer,or buy me a scope for my hunting rifle. That was three months ago so I just asked him if he could send some scope money up with my mom because there's a big gun show this weekend. So I get the money from her and it turns out to be 50 dollars. Now this won't even cover the cost of scope rings from Ruger. I am stuck on what to do now. I want to call him up and ask him for more to cover the scope because that's what he offered earlier this year, but I don't know if this would be an azzhole move or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Was it maybe a hint that he wished you had chosen to go on the fishing trip with him...plus you don't ever want to put your father in a "hard spot" over a silly scope. Just as a rule....never ask for more when you have been given a gift. 0 -

You need to get your priorities straight. Maybe you were never taught priorities, but now, its your job as a man, to learn them. You need to learn ya some fetchin up. these us guys are more than willing to offer you good advice, you need to take it and use it to be a good son and maybe a good dad.0 -
A gift is a gift. Take what he has offered and be thankful. 0 -
What a nice gesture, guys!
But yeah, addition to what i said earlier, Go on the fishing trip, and with the money buy your dad a pole, or some tackle, or take him out to lunch or something, you CAN replace the scope, as was said.
I wish MY dad would WANT to go fishing- but he doesnt feel like it.
Hey dad, if you read this, fishin tomorrow? [}:)][}:)][:D]0 -
Speaking from experience, I strongly recommend that you take your Dad up on the offer of a fishing trip.
You can always buy more scopes, but the day will come when that fishing trip with Dad will be an impossibility.
I'd gladly trade every scope I own, or will ever own, to fish with my dear old Dad just one more time.0 -
contribution for a scope = $50
asking for more money from dad for scope = lifetime of negative respect
spending time with your dad fishing = priceless
My mom still thinks a loaf of bread is 50 cents.0 -
Spurgemaster got it exactly right. 0 -
You have received some outstanding advice.
Follow it.
I'm still here if you want to talk it out.

johnny - Thanks for the correction !!0 -
I didn't have the choice of choosing between the two things, he said he'd do one or the other and said we'd be doing it this summer and since the summer's almost up and hunting season is approaching, I decided to ask him for the scope. I'm 17 btw, and thanks for all of your guys' advice. It's greatly appreciated. 0 -
Take the $50 and go fishing with your Dad. When you are fishing, don't mention the scope. 0 -
i have a nikon prostaff 3-9 on my 308 does great so sitting on a number 1 shouldnt disgrace it any and its a reasonable price at 150 0 -
What ever came up of it? 0 -
Just say thanks dad.... And then say "wow this is unreal" 0 -
frankcastle, your Dad is a very thoughtful man. He gave you a gift for your birthday, and now you are whining about it. Your a lucky kid to have a Dad that cares enough to give you a gift. Take the money and get him something, then take him fishing or hunting. Something like that means more than anything to a Dad. 0 -
Just be happy with the gift that he gave you and call it a day. P.S. You should have took him up on the fishing trip! 0 -
Save the 50 and add to it to get the best scope you can afford and be happy with and tell your dad thanks![^][8D] 0 -

You will soon realize that dads aren't there to give money to you on your birthday, there here to be your friend and mentor. The value of money is nothing in comparison to the friendship you have with your father.0 -
1. Just say thanks, dad. (Sincerely). And let it drop. It's done.
2. Get a checking account. (Shows dad you have good responsibility).
3. Next time you are in a position to receive money from dad, tell
him to write you a check with your name on it.
I don't know anything about your family. So, after you read this, and catch its subtle meaning, and find it to be insulting, please accept my apology. Best to you, anyway. Joe0 -
I believe that being "friends" with your Children trivializes your parental leadership role.
