Letters From Iwo Jima
Clint Eastwoods' Letters From Iwo Jima came out on DVD Tuesday. Two disc set, one being special features.
Don't want to spoil the ending for you, so just say it has good photography and accurate props.[:D][:p]

If you have not seen it, I highly recommend it. I think it is on it's way to becoming one of my top 5 war movies.
The thing I found most incomprehensible is the Japanese predisposition to kill themselves, to die an honorable death in battle, by whatever means necessary, even if it is at their own hands, rather than to retreat and live to fight another day. With a strategy like that, is it any wonder we eventually defeated them?0 -
His first movie, Flags Of Our Fathers, really was poor.[:(] Very disappointing. Unless one read the book you had no idea who was who and why and what was happening.
Would not waste my money on the second Iwo movie.0 -

I agree the first one was kind of a waste and I won't buy that disc. If you haven't seen Letters, it's a stand alone film, historically accurate, and even the Jap haters would like it (however, they must be able to read English).[}:)]0 -

That leaves out 25% of Japan and 50% of America.[:(]0 -
The family and I saw it when it first came out. If you like history, then don't miss it. 0 -
I've seen both. Skip "Flags of our fathers", don't miss "Letters from Iwo". I thought they were going to both be movies about the same thing but from different sides. The first one was barely about the battle & instead focused on the people who raised the flag & what happened to them afterward. 0
