I bought mine(wifes) new at a Gunshow in Houston for 600 out the door with night sights. Which was a steal as was yours. But the cheapest I have seen them other than the prices we paid for ours is between 750 and 800 bucks. As far as I know they have always been around that price.

They have gone up in price, but there has always been a HUGE difference in HK USP civilian and LEO price. In 1999 I bought my USP-Full size two tone 40sw, and it cost $300 less at a LEO authorized dealer than it was selling for at civilian price.

I bought this gun (the USP 9c compact) for $500.00 new as an LEO purchase with 6 mags

That was an incredible price, even for LEO, especially with the extra mags. When was the original purchase? With extra mags and night sights these are usually close to $700.

I really never thought the "compact" was really compact compared to the full size. Less than one inch on the slide and frame (if I remember right). Losing 2 in capacity from 15 to 13 (unless you're in California handy cap) and no real weight loss.

As for price HK's were always a bit pricier and much more purdier than the Glock.

About 6 years ago, another officer ordered it and didn't like the config and instead of sending it back I took it and he bought new. The dealer gave me that price to piss him off I honestly believe. Either way I actually carry it a lot and love to shoot it.
