So how much does $1million in cash weigh?
... or almost $2 million?
So I'm reading this AP news story about an armored car heist in Florida, where the bad guys got away with 1.8 million. The story indicates the bad guys popped the guard outside the van and that he was actually carrying the cash.
http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/05/02/armored.truck.heist.ap/index.html
So how much does 1.8 million in cash actually bulk? I tried googling for the answer but it wasn't clear. Assuming it's in $100 bills, that's still 18,000 individual bills. What would it weigh? Is that amount something you need a handtruck for?

Depends how "wimpy" one is,.........probably around 65-80 pounds. 0 -
... or the denominations, eh? 0 -
Sure, but I was going with your suggestion of $100 dollar bills,............now pennies,.............![:D] 0 -
either it was an inside job, or that guy was the slowest, and worst shot that I've ever seen.
Ben0 -
1 bill weighs 1 gram
there is something very fishy with that, if you see the video notice that the guard shooting is hitting the ground in front of him, at no point does he actually shoot towards the assailants0 -

it is still a guess, no one knows how many of each denomination that was taken
now they just have to kill the guard that was involved0 -
Perhaps they accepted a cashiers check. 0 -
Did any of you see the surveilance video of the heist? It showed the guy's putting the money in the car and the security guard firing his weapon at them. It looked like 3 shots and you could see the bullets hitting the pavement about 4 ft. in front of the guard that was doing the shooting. I can't believe he was that bad of a shot. 0 -
A lot of these turn out to be setup inside jobs,........or the guard is usually shot and killed. Something about this "smells".[xx(] 0 -
Pretty stupid to have fired directly into the ground... those bullets could have ricocheted and killed either himself or innocent bystanders... 0 -
funny, this question came up at work a few days ago independently from the story, here's what we googled up, i think it was the first link:

The only thing I'm interested in is how much reward is for its return, especially if it happens to be a wee bit bloody....
I hate thiefs.....0 -
A dollar bill (or $5 or $10 or $100) weighs about 1 gram. So what denomination were the bills in? 0 -
In pennies it would weight aprox. 123414774.371 lbs.
Or a little over 61700 tons.
Try carrying that off!0 -

I wouldn't worry about that git_r_done. If our wives saw that on the street; they would have no problem carrying it to the local shopping/ mall center. [:0][B)]0 -
Some of you guys need to find something else to do with your time![:D][;)] 0 -
Not such a good shot, maybe he was shaken up from being assaulted.

Rent a Cop. What do you expect?0 -
what type of check cashing place needs 1.8 million? 0 -
At the very least, it's the weight of 18,000 $100 bills with 180 wrappers and a large burlap bag with leather handles.[;)][:D] 0 -
Good,.........safe, answer![:D] 0 -
deffinatley a good stash, if ya only get 20 yrs for armed robbery, less half 10...nice one!![;)] 0 -
i use to drive an armored car and there were several times we had 5 to 6 million in the back. never once did i ever think about taking it. i did think about what i would do with all of that money though. it alway stunk in the back of the armored car because that much money always had an odor. we usually picked it up from the casinos. 0 -
bad shot from being startled, did you guys even see the video?
one shot was about six feet in front of him, the rest where no where near the target, definitely something wrong0 -
If it's in one dollar bills, it should weigh about one metric ton. 0
