Gun show "loophole" ?

Yeah. I think you are.
As we all know, we live in a world where evil exists and bad people do bad things. Sometimes, bad people show up at gun shows thinking that they can find willing sellers to help them obtain guns that they couldn't normally purchase by legal means.
So, in the spirit of zero-tolerance (similar in nature to Gun Free Zones), we assume everyone is a nutfudge. Therefore, you do background checks on anyone and everyone trying to purchase a firearm.0 -
I may be confused as well but i thought his was the deciding vote on the AWB that hurt his election bid. I don't recall any gun show loop holes being closed. 0 -

As far as I know, face-to-face sales between residents of the same state (whether at a gun show or not) still require nothing other than that both parties agree to the terms of the transaction. 0 -

I am pretty sure that, in most states, a face to face sale at a gun show between two private individuals requires no paperwork.
Which makes it the same as buying a gun from the want ads.
Which means that there is no "Gun Show Loophole," any more than there is a "Want Ads Loophole."
The "Gun Show Loophole" is a red herring that the gun grabbers trot out every few years.0 -
You know, now that you mention it, There are signs that say all firearm transactions must be NCIC'ed at the last few shows Ive been to. There's a office/or table with a guy just doing transfers. It must be a new thing because I dont remember seeing anything like that a few years ago. 0 -

in WI there is NO requirement to do any kind of background check or paperwork , no record keeping required either0 -

Its like "year round school"...you know someone has a plan for it and somehow it is slowly being inacted...even though you don't remember ever voting or discussing the matter with anyone officially. The ATF has always regulated gun related rules (and pretty much MADE new laws we all have to follow)through the memos and news letters. One day there will be one saying we are to fill out some type of form at gun shows for every transaction that takes place....and THAT will mutate into a background check. 0 -
I can only speak to the states in which I go to shows, but I have never had trouble buying from private sellers in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota or Oklahoma, all as recently as last winter and this spring. 0 -

Gore lost because Bush's brother counted the vote. I have bought at gunshows without anyone checking my id or state of residence. But that just means the BATF was not there enforcing laws that already exist. Enforcement will always be a loophole. It is in each and every law. 0 -
I believe that there are definitions of what a "gun show" is.(and I am not exactly sure of the definition) And here in the Peoples Republic of New York at a gun show there is no "private sales" allowed, parking lot or whatever. Every gun sale is supposed to be NCIC'd. Oh and by the way Al Gore lost because he is Al Gore. 0 -

OK Professor, tell us the rest of the story. You have an FFL or a C&R or only buy long guns from out of state shows? The GCA of 1968 deems it unlawful to sell handguns to an out of state resident.

Any gun show loophole law is on the STATE level.
On the federal level. The 110th congress introduced H.R. 96, "The Gun Show Loophole Closing Act of 2007" It was introduced by Rep. Michael Castle (R-DE) It is still in committee, and has 3 cosponsors.
Notice that he has an "R" after his name???0 -

In the People's Demokratik Republik of Kalifornia all private party sales (not just gun shows) must go through a dealer. The dealer must hold the firearm for the mandatory waiting period before you can pick it up & he will charge you for this plus the State fee. 0
