Re-blueing a rifle

My dad's .54 muzzle loader is in need of a rebluing. I've got a bluing kit at home, but I was wondering how to do it so it looks nice.

Anyone care to help?

  And what did the instructions say? What kit did you buy?

  Browning might be better for a muzzleloader. If you want to blue,
  preparation is the key. Polish the metal carefully, using a file to wrap your sandpaper or emory cloth around to maintain the flats. Use cotton gloves or cloth to be certain your hands never touch the bare metal. After going from roughest to finest sandpaper, just follow the instructions on your particular brand of bluing and you should do fine.
