Had an auction for 250 rds Hornady 9mm TAP. This was a sealed case I received from supplier and never opened, but clearly marked 250 rds Hornady 9mm TAP. Turns out case was mis-marked; buyer gets shipment today and says in it instead is 150 rds 9mm TAP and two boxes of 357 MAG. He wants to return ammo and get refund. I say I have another 100 rounds of the same 9mm TAP and will honor original auction, plus he can keep the two boxes of 357 MAG, but no refund.
Am I right or wrong here?

Sounds to me as though you are being especially generous. How could anyone think otherwise?
If he refuses your generous offer, just have him return the entire lot for a refund. You just can't please some people.0 -
Sounds to me as if you've gone out of your way to meet your obligations...tell him to take it or leave it.
If you do end up allowing him to return it, I would make him pay the shipping costs....there's no way you should be on the losing end of this transaction.

I sold the 250 rd case for $80 (this was Hornady 124gr JHP/XTP), and under-charged shipping on top of it. Now he can keep two boxes of 357 MAG on top of that. I haven't got a reply yet, but he said he was returning the ammo tomorrow before I had a chance to respond to his email. Maybe he thought I was going to stiff him on the other 100 rds? 0 -

As a third party let me get this straight.
You sent 250 rnds of 9mm to a person. On arrival this person found the box to contain 150 rounds of 9mm and some unspecified number of .357,(two boxes)
You to make good on purchass, offer to ship 100 more 9mm rnds which totals 250 rnds of 9mm, and tell the buyer to keep the .357 at no charge, with out ever opening the original box.
and the buyer wont take it?

even if i didnt own a 357 and wanted only 9mm id still be really impressed with your buisness ethic. it would give me a reason to buy a 357 or id sell it or give it away, i still got my 250 9mm...

He has not yet responded to my emails. The thing is, he wanted to return the ammo and get refund before even giving me a chance to reply and say I'd honor the auction completely. Perhaps he's new to online transactions and he's worried about getting shafted. I would bet that he changes his tune after your email...he's not much count if doesn't.0 -
Since this isn't a collector item, one would assume that the buyer's intent was to use the ammunition. Sounds like you have honored your auction and made the buyer a good faith offer. Unless the buyer has some ulterior motive, I'm not sure why he wouldn't gladly accept.
One thing that is puzzling though; I'm not familiar with 250 round case packaging, would it even permit inclusion of 100 rounds (2 boxes) of the longer 357 Magnum ammunition in 9mm packaging? Hope he isn't gaming you.0 -
Let me see if I understand this; someone bids on 250 rounds of 9mm ammo. There is a mistake at the factory, but the upshot of it is the purchaser gets the 250 rounds he purchased, plus 100 357 mag ammo, free. Which part of this deal did the purchaers not like? Oh, I guess he didn't own a Korth or Python and wanted one of those thrown in to offset his inconvenience. 0 -

I bought several cases of this stuff from a supplier in Washington state (a great GB seller). All the cases were marked and sealed, so I merely assumed contents were correct (I shot the other two cases and each contained 250 rds of the 9mm). I shipped this case without checking, and my guess is that I had a mixed order and received the 250 rds of 9mm in separate shipments or boxes.0 -
More than fair as far as I'm concerned. What would be the difference if you has mispacked them? You're still making good on the deal and giving him the .357 as boot.

Full disclosure. You should request he return all in the same box and packed the same way as you sent it. Pay the shipping, at the same rate it was sent, and give a full refund. Then compare the packing to see if it fits ect. Then weigh the contents and box and compare with the weight on the USPS receipt. Do they match? If it dosn't pack right in the box or it dosn't weigh the same, block the buyer from future bidding and take your loss. If it fits and weighs the same and you are convinced it was a problem from who sold to you then go to who sold it to you and request a full refund plus shipping cost losses. If everyone is reasonable then the problem will get solved. If someone is not honest you will probably find out who and adjust. 0 -
I think this sounds like a communication issue.
Maybe the buyer reacted to what he thought was happening instead of taking a wait and see approach.

The same thought crossed my mind. If the customer ends up with the same amount of ammo he originally purchased and is not paying any additional shipping costs (plus he gets free ammo to boot) I can't see what the issue is. Many times I have placed orders for all sorts of items and the orders were filled in two seperate shippments from the supplier.0 -
