For Cement. Contractor says forms are good, ready to pour. Gives me a price and wants the job. I tell him another contractor is coming over this afternoon. Then the guy wants to lower his price. Hey, How do you feel when a contractor lowers the money just to get the job. My reasoning is he should have given me the right price the first time. NO Sale.

I buy supplies for the company I work for. My suppliers send me price lists at the beginning of the year and I buy based on these. I use a min of 4 suppliers for each item, and I always have some idiot salesman wanting to "redo" their price list. I tell them to forget it and try again next year. Some of the orders are in the 7 figure range, so you would think they would give me the best price posssible. Just goes to show how greedy some people really are. 0 -
select- don't be so hard.. Have you ever gone to buy a vette from a private person and offered them a price and then did some thinking and gone back and offered more? He was just sizing you up and shopping. One price for a man in a business suit and another for a man in blue jeans for the same job. 0 -
For me you need to give me your best/last price up front.
You only get one bid make it count!
The state highway department bids all their work on your first/last bid.
Bidding work ain't no auction sale.0 -
Bidding is a reverse auction. The lowest price wins. The contractor is not in business to sell you something. He is in business to make money. He makes his money by selling what ever he is selling, in this case cement. He wants to make as much as he can, just like you or me. There will be times when his bid costs him more than he thought and his profit is too little or cost him out of his pocket. So the contractor must take that into consideration when he bidds on all jobs. If the contarctor doesn't figure that in he will eventually go out of business. So he bidds at the highest lowest figure he thinks will get him the job and still keep his profit margin up as high as possible. But you probably know this. So why the bitch? 0 -
A good friend of mine is a contractor that installs brick patios, driveways and such. He gives one price, but is negotiable for cash. If he gets the sense that the homeowner is wants to dicker about price he begins to shy away from the job altogether. From past experiences he knows these are ussualy the people that are a pain in the buttocks throughout the job are will complain at the end and try to get a reduced price.
I guess there can be a line between wanting the sale and not wanting the headache.
Yes, some contractors give one price regardles if the homeowner is recieving a second bid.0 -

Done Deal, Second Contractor didn't call or show up. I had a backup plan.. Third contractor looks it over, checks squareness, grade and says he can do it. Got the agreement signed.[:D][:D] 0 -
Good deal, when are they going to pour it? What ever happened to the two concrete trucks this morning? Did they have a place to offload before it setup? 0
