Caution: Make sure to clean the spray bottle you use for these solutions thoroughly before mixing these recipes. And try to create as much ventilation when using bleach as possible.
Tile Cleaner
Ingredients:
1 part chlorine bleach
1 part water
1 quart spray bottle
rubber gloves
Directions:
Add equal parts of chlorine bleach and water to your spray bottle. Using rubber gloves, spray this solution on your tiles and wipe it off with a sponge. If there is a lot of built up you may need to let the solution sit for about 10 minutes before wiping it off.
Tile Grout Cleaner
Ingredients:
3/4 cup chlorine bleach
3 cups water
1 quart spray bottle
rubber gloves
tooth brush
Directions:
Mix the the chlorine bleach and water in the spray bottle. Then spray it on the grout and wipe off with a sponge. If the grout is especially dirty you may need to spray liberally and let it sit for about 10 minutes and you may even need to break out an old tooth brush if it still doesn't come off easily.
Tip: If you clean your tiles regularly with the Tile Cleaner solution you won't have to use the Tile Grout Cleaner solution very often.0 -
Take the tile up, put it back down, and use a dark grout... we did ours in charcoal grey with a nice marble like tile... looks good, don't need cleaning. 0 -

Then drink the Jack Daniels........0 -
close the bathroom door when you're done, no one'll see it. 0 -
That bleach and water idea works.I've been using it for years. It makes a BIG difference as to how long you can work with the stuff if you wear a gas mask. No joking, a surplus gas mask on and you can stay in the bathroom all day with the door closed. 0 -
Dark grout is great, as long as you spill dark stuff on it, like red wine, soy sauce etc.
If something white gets on dark grout, it really stands out. So be sure to keep soap, flour etc away from dark grout.0 -

just add a little HCl in there next time and you have even more of a super cleaner. [:D]
disclaimer: i don not recommend putting HCl and bleach together nor did I tell you too!0 -
we used to use muratic acid when I worked at Wendys.......
Just mix it with water [:D]0 -
Here is a great option: Clean the grout properly, then apply grout paint in your color of choice. We did this to our kitchen and bath over a year ago, and its unbelievable. Grout stays a nice gray color, and wont stain anymore. It comes in a bottle with a built in brush. I hate dark grout, and this stuff works.

Muriatic acid is the Best. wear a respirator though.0 -
Whatever you use, don't be too aggressive with brushing as you may start to erode the grout itself AND possibly crack some of it in the process.
I agree with several posters above in that you should do this cleaning regularly to remove the discolorations over a period of time rather than all at once.
I like the bleach and water approach because if there is any mold there, bleach will kill it and keep it sanitized while you go about lightening the stains. Just remember to wear old clothes and eye protection as bleach will burn the eyses and fade fabric. Keep windows open for ventilation.0 -
Instead of mixing up anything just buy a bottle of the Clorox bleach gel. Squirt the gel on the line and let it sit for a minute or two and wipe away[8D] 0 -
Take a stick of chlorine for the pool and use it the liquid bleach is only 6% chlorine when made, and it degrades. The chlorine stick will whiten the grout right up, then use X14 or similar regularly to prevent the yuck. If you have hard water after you kill the growing stuff hit and rinse it thenb hit it with limeaway and even better results. Then protect with grout sealer. When I use a good grout sealer it usually takes several years before the grout is pourous enough to allow the mold growth. Mold needs food, and moisture you cannot eliminate the moisture so you need to keep soap scum etc off. 0 -
Urine!
At least that's what I told my wife when she caught me taking a leak in the shower. "But Honey Bunny,[:D] I read it in Heloise...she said it cleans the grout."[;)]
So now every Sunday I have to pee on the tile and scrub it with a brush. Should've just held it.[8]0 -
