Replace that with soda or water, might last a bit longer [;)]

Excellent advice Jake, but I've deserved this one. Working until 2-3am, getting up at 9am. Lots of hours and hard work. I've just grabbed some bourbon to help me relax.

Are you going to have to move all that stuff again to run your quarter round???

Yeah, it won't be that hard. I have two days of vacation left. I plan on relaxing for those two days, then laying 1/4 round on my next three days off.

That new floor really looks good!

Quarter round? What's quarter round?![:o)] Seriously looks really nice though Brandon! I wasn't sure they had real world carpentry types there in Lafeyette, but I guess I stand corrected! My Dad graduated from Purdue, and while he can rebuild your cars engine for you and design virtually any production machine you could imagine, I would have to say his carpentry skills are somewhat wanting (I'm being kind here...he's STILL bigger than me!)

I also second Erics request for updated pictures of Tori.[:D] Hey, us old guys gotta have pretty girls to look at too!

Thanks for the compliments guys. While carpentry is not my strongest suit, I have learned alot from this project. Each doorway has an intricate moulding around the base. Requires some serious layout to get it right. The entry room that you see in the first picture was the real PITA, 3 different rooms connect to it, along with two HVAC registers. The front room with the TV was done in a matter of four hours.

All in all it was really fun, enjoyable (for the most part), a real learing experiance. I look forward to doing the bedrooms later on. This stuff makes it pretty easy to look professional.

I suppose [}:)] I wake up at 6am every morn for school, take a shower, get ready, and leave, sit at school from 6:40 - 7:30 when school starts, then stay till 3:00 PM and get home around 3:30 (i walk home) go to bed around 10, fall asleep around 12, I deserve a nice big glass of water! [^][^]

just when i thought you had done a great job on the floor (which from the pics it looks like you have) i noticed there were no pics of Tori modeling the new floor, she did alot of the work too, so far we've only seen her working and you taking pics of HER working... therefore until we have updated pics of Tori, with or without the new floor involved, i can't compliment you openly on the job well done... She knows there is a demand for her in the pics. She has bronchitis and hasn't been feeling well the last few days. No makeup since we started the floor, so there is no way she'd let a picture of her get taken. We're heading out to dinner at the Outback tomorrow afternoon. I'm sure she'll be all doll'd up. I'll try to get a couple tomorrow.

Jake : I'm up before 4am everyday I work. Sleeping in is one of life's little pleasures. Wait until you start college, sleep is unheard of.

When I was dating Tori, I was the opening manager at McDonald's. I got to work at 4am, got off at 1pm. Ran home, took a shower, had class from 2pm until 6 on most nights, until 10 on a couple nights a week. Then it was a shot from school to Tori's apartment. Needless to say, no homework got done. I would get home about 12-1am, then sleep a few hours until I had to get up for work. I had Sunday's off and didn't have to be at work until 8am Monday. I would get home from Tori's about 1-2am Sunday morning, wouldn't get up until 7am Monday morning.

Cubs...If you ever feel like traveling from the Christmas Islands to the Mardi Gras Swamps, I'd love to have you do my floors. I'll provide the flooring and the beer--and babEsit with Tori while you work. [;)] Come on down!!!

    Great job, BTW.

Really guys, with basic carpentry skills, this stuff is a breeze to put down. Really easy to make it look professional.

Ram: I'm in Indiana. Not such a long trip, if I come down do I get beads?

hey Cubs i was just taking a closer look at the flooring, is that the snap together kind, prefinished? looks like luan (sp) under the back and it free floats or is the true hardwood flooring?

Well it looks like you did a really class job! You deserve a pat on the back. Thats hard work and requires a lot of time to complete.[:0][:0]

What kind of prep do you have to do to the floor underneath before laying the new material??[?]

If you ever make it up here, I'll take both of you out to dinner somewhere... And I'll have some booze waiting. I've got a fair amount of ammo for my guns, although I could burn it all up in less than an hour if I wanted to...and if my shoulder would agree to such punishment.

Yeah, glueless laminate. Wears like iron, literally no maintenance.

    Sig...

I pulled the existing carpet and pad. In the top photo you see me getting ready to lay more 7/16ths OSB over the existing hardwood floors(thank god for a Porter Cable power framing nailer). Then a thick foam underlayment padding for use under floating floors. Then the laminate on that.

I hope that you didn't put down that foam in the laundry room. I get way to many calls than i need because someone put that kind of flooring in the laundry room. It causes the washer to shake realy bad. It is just like putting a sponge under every leg of the washer.

Nope, but thanks for the advice. One bad thing about this place is that the laundry room is in the basement.
