    In the two rolls that I opened I found eight error coins. It seems like pretty good odds that any of these rolls will contain at least one.

    I wasn't kidding about folks on fleabay paying $40 for a sealed roll.

    Ok, ya got me there. The eight that I found are the most common error, upside down edge inscriptions.

    According to the US Mint those aren't errors. They are that way because of the random way they fall into the press.

    Well For me If I were intersted in the coin (not) it might be a deal. I haven't been inside a bank in 3 years. Do everything online. The time and the gas, oddly enough, would be more than his profit and shipping!!!!

    I thought the upside down jobbers were errors too and now I have several hundred to turn back into the bank

    The error to look for is missing edge inscription. They have been reported but I haven't heard any estimate of how many there are.
    I got a roll at my bank on the first day.

    Why did you pull it? Even without the Errors the Uncirculated rolls always double in price, just check the other uncirculated dollar coin rolls on ebay too. like the Sacajaweas etc...

    The Sacajaweas I looked at on Ebarf are currenly selling for 30.00 per roll of 25 or less...In my experience of collecting coins these last 25 years or so, not all rolls double in price and most modern coins do not come anywhere near that.....

    Now my wife just got a bunch of these for her birthday and one looked like an error coin, but I haven't heard of this kind of error. All of the others looked shiny and new, but just the one had a front and back that looked dirty like an old penny except for the outer edge that was shiny and new?! Anyone hear of this? You could still see the spamping on both sides, just didn't have the buffed shiny to it.

    When several hundred million are being made and a large percentage of them are being put away uncirculated, it would be nearly impossible for them to ever attain any real serious value. There are just too many of them out there.

    It's the rare coins that become valuable, and these will never be rare.

    The first error is the mint trying again to make a small dollar coin. There was the Susan B. Anthony flop....The Sacajuwia(sp) flop.....and now the Washington dollar. ???
    The error on the coins that are worth money are the ones where the inscription "In God We Trust" is missing. From what I heard 50,000 of them made it out of the mint.

    anthonyj is correct. This is exactly why the dollar coin will never be used as currency again. It is only slightly larger than a quarter, and almost looks like a quarter. It's smaller than a half dollar. If the mint seriously want the public to accept a dollar coin, they will have to make it larger than a half dollar, and maybe smaller than a real dollar.

    In the early days of this issue the "upside down" edge inscription was thought to be an error.

    The mint announced that they were indifferent to how the edge lettering appears relative to the obverse and reverse faces except on "proof" coins.

    I don't have any "errors" after all.
