13th MEU departs San Diego for WESTPAC deployment
ABOARD THE USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6) -- Approximately 2,200 Marines and Sailors from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, including Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, Combat Logistics Battalion 13 and Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 163 (Rein) set sail April 10 aboard the ships of Expeditionary Strike Group 5, embarking on a deployment to the Western Pacific region. The deployment is scheduled to last 6-7 months during which the unit will serve as the nation's "911" force in the region. The deployment follows an intense six-month training cycle as the unit prepared for a myriad of operational possibilities, ranging from Humanitarian Assistance Operations to full-scale urban combat. How many Sailors? I doubt a Marine knows much on keeping a ship on course.I'd bet theres more like 2000 Sailors and maybe, just maybe 200 marines.I've been on a westpack cruise, its a piece of cake.We were on a real war machine 80% jets 20% props.The marines might have had a hundred troops on board.We had 4000 sailors aboard ship.The sea going bell hops were just for show. Just joking , I hope your son enjoys the cruise.Brown silk out ranks a jar head during police actions.
