Hot Rod Lincolns...
My Dad always bought Lincolns, even though he was plant Manager a Fisher Body, building Cadillacs.

I've never been able to see/hear that word string, 'Hot Rod Lincoln' ... without making
me smile every time! We had a LOT of hot rods in the 50s and 60s - BUT - I can't ever
recall seeing a Hot Rod Lincoln. ... although, some of the guys did have Hot Rod
Caddie Hearses (surfers) for upscaled surfer woodies!

I had a '51 hot rod Lincon - '57 engine, '54 trans (a 4 speed GM Hydro), '57 Ford Station Wagon rear end (9"), no hood, 2X4(inside out Holleys), dual exhausts with Smitty mufflers(glass pack).
Never had it on a drag strip, but on the highway, it sounded real good, and would peg the speedo - I think it was 100MPH. We used to call it "turning the ton".
I won't even attempt to do anything with a car today - don't like the rice burners, and can't afford a new Mustang. Probably couldn't do anything with it, anyway.

With new cars all you need are basics. Intake, exhaust, and a good tune and you can easily pick up 50 horsepower.0 -

Hot Rods are STILL a big deal in Southern California. From May to
September (October, in some places) hundreds of them turn out
for a weekly inspection in these nearby towns - and a few more.
Nothing as interesting and fun as checking them out/talking to their
owners on a warm summer's night. There's a carnival atmosphere in
a couple of towns - it's a big deal!

yep still got it. the v12 was changed out in 52.
everyone knows the v12 was a dog, and putting a 52 caddy in was like scoping a pre 64 M70. know one cared at the time. the goal was to smooth out a horrible running engine to get a car worth driving.

The prewar Lincoln Continental would be a great "retro" style for Ford to reproduce but with a modern engine, suspension, power steering and AC.
In my hot rod days, an engine rebuilder said the V12 burned out its' camshaft bearings by 30k miles dropping oil pressure, followed shortly
by the rest of the engine. It was a very smooth engine while it lasted.
I remember the '53 Lincoln taking the Pikes Peak hill climb. It was another beautiful car.0 -

most old lincoln owners were not satisfied with the v12 engine and ended up scraping them for the powerful caddy v8. a very common upgrade.
