unique mystery pic that needs aircraft buffs help
well yes i know what it is, but what AIRCRAFT would it go on????
i had the honor of meeting a fellow at my hometown gun club who use to work at this plant and he gave me this as a gift. he said it was what theyd put on a/c made between 1939 and 1943. i guessed right off the bat, the F-4U, because i knew the history of the local air field.
but then he threw me a curve ball and asked me what other aircraft were made by sikorsky and vought in the same time period!
i need help folks! educate me![:I]

Real curve-ball. See below. Mk19's list appears to be all inclusive for Vought. During the war, the airfield (on L.I. Sound) made fixed-wing.
Up the river ol' Igor was making flying boats. And launched them directly into the Quinnipiac. First helo wasn't adopted by USAAF 'til mid WWII.
Almost certain your plaque is a United Technologies plaque. Well after WWII. I remember seeing them on SK76's, UH60's, and that large seven bladed monster (can't remember the designation-looked like "Jolly Green"). Joe

Had to be Corsair. Vindicator was Vultee and choppers weren't made
then. Corsairs were also made by other companies.
I wonder if those carried the Vought Sikorsky nameplates.

Post WWII Corsairs were mf'd. by GOODYEAR!! Go figure. Joe
Tidbit: A Navy pilot achieved ace status in a Goodyear Corsair. It was the last ace achievement in a piston engined aircraft. (Korea).
....It was also the only ace achievement by the US Navy during the Korean conflict.

There are a couple helicopters that qualify.
Igor Sikorski is most famous for rotory wing flight-kind of the father of the modern helicopter. His first helicopters were built in 1909 in Russia. The VS300 flew in 1939.
Sikorski's VS300 was retired in 1942 and the R5 was in production in 1942 and used by the US in WW2
The Sikorski R4
In 1943 the Vought-Sikorski company was in production of the R6 helicopter. The navy and coast guard were also flying these.
