Question about carrying inside your own store

...decent question, never gave it much thought. Concealed carry here but, 99.9% of the employees at the gun stores, ranges around here...carry open. Did so before the CHL was introduced back in 98-99, so I suspose it's legal here; never heard of a problem with it.

...Of course our laws aren't "too" restrictive, one gun law is one too many IMO. You can walk down the street with a long gun, loaded; as long as you aren't threatening anyone, you are legal...[;)]

Depends on the state. You can open carry anywhere in SD without any type of permit.

Illinois probably has a law about it.

[8D]-In California-You don't have to own either-store/property, to carry IN STORE--

--But NOT CONCEALED and the store has to be primary firearms--not just ammo--All background checks apply for ALL owners and employees--

Legal in NM, but in only one shop in my memory was it standard practice. Theives drove their truck through the bars and took their inventory in the middle of the night. They never re-opened.

Still legal to carry open or concealed in your place of business in IL as long as you have the owner's permision.

I did it all the time at the gunshop.

I hear some gas stations prohibit their employees from carrying.

In most states it's legal for employees of businesses to carry on premises, as long as it's shown that security isn't their primary function. You'd then get into the issue of requirements for licensing as a security guard.

the way i learned was whenever mass quanities of arms were being handled, the owner and his staff were allowed to protect the inventory while unlocked and avaialble to the public.
