dryer overheating?

need some troubleshooting. i know weve talked about this one before but cant find the thread.

runs fine for 25 mins dries just fine, then shuts down. wait 24hrs, and it runs again.

something about a heat sensor is bad or is it the element?
circuit breaker does not pop.

    Have you taken it all apart and cleaned the lint out. Mine did the same thing and it was all the lint in it that made it go overheat.

    Mine was overheating so I cleaned all the lint out. Still overheated. I found that the exhaust hose that runs thru the basement had water in it. I'm not sure how the water got in because the exhaust louvres (SP?) on the outside of the house were in good shape. I drained the water out and it worked fine.

    Your water came from the warm humid air condensing on the sides of the cooler duct as the air made its way to the outside. It didn't come from the outside. You will have to check the duct once in a while to keep the duct open.

    Dryer sheets are the enemy of clothes dryers; I'll bet you are using them.

    Dryer sheets coat everything in the exhaust path with a sticky substance that attracts the lint. Every 2-3 years you have to open up the dryer & clean out all the parts between the drum & the exhaust port. A cylindrical brush, along with a vacuum cleaner, is the best way to do it.

    Even cleaning won't save the heat sensor. You will either have to replace it, or, do as I do: use the dryer on the timed cycle only.

    The heat sensor went bad on mine. It was an inexpensive 5 minute repair job. I ordered the part from Sears online and put it in myself.

    Sounds like a stopped up vent to me.

    Either the element is good or not. No medium there. If it is burnt into it is done. So if it is getting hot it isn't the element. Check for a kinked or plugged vent. If not that then it is a sensor gone bad. Unplug the dryer and take off the back. The sensor will be a little round quarter size thingy with two wires going to it. You can use a jumper wire connected to the two wires.. ( just to see if it will run ) and dry. I bet it is faulty.

    What's the best way to take a dryer apart to clean all the lint out of it?

    Dryers vary, but most top loaders have a front panel that comes off. Start with the screws visible when you open the door, then every time you take off a panel another set of screws will appear.
