Ship anything latley - $15 wont cut it

Got back from post office shipping some AK's.
On the auction, I quoted $15, thats fare.

First one went to Michigan $61.10
Second went to New York $37.45
Of course that includes insurance.

USPS is now checking & charging for the overall grith size now.

Guess so much for the $15 shipping these days.

    It is getting outrageous. I have been buying a few things on the auction side here that are small (ex. stripper clips) and the shipping quote is like $6-$7. The package can't weigh much. I've noticed it on other auction sites too.

    Got a pair of Goodyear GS-C's coming from Missouri. Seller emailed and said UPS quoted him a price and then charged him more.. Imagine that.. I will see how much more and send him the difference.

    Not that I begrudge anyone making a profit, but I guess 10zillion, or
    whatever, wasn't enough.

    Post office is charging by size too.

    Have a box to ship and it weighs 8 lbs. But because it's more than one cubic foot, they are charging me for a 14 lb. box. $25.00 instead of around $15. I said it only weighs 8 lbs. I was told that this is the "NEW" rate, and that is the way they are going to figure it.

    Shipped a rifle to NY. A month ago (before the increase) it would have been around the $15 mark. This time it was $24. That's insured w/RRR.

    It wasn't only the stamps that went up this time. More and more people are shopping from home, and they can take advantage of that. I blame it on the price of gas. EVERYTHING is either gone up, or is going to go up.

    I try and use flat rate boxes whenever i can; but items requireing much larger boxes are a beach.

    i just shipped 2 paper gun magazines wrapped in grocery bag paper and they charged me 4.60. they said they dont offer p/p for items of that nature. needless to say i lost bigtime. i only charged 99 cents for the auction win and 3.00 flat rate to ship.

    That's why I put "Buyer to pay ACTUAL SHIPPING CHARGES" on the auction I have going on now. I was told that people don't like,that but, I ain't paying it. They can pay what it costs to ship it or they won't get it.

    I just shipped a 03-a3 (via UPS)and it shipped for $19 + change MI to MO, that was with insurance and tracking.

    Butt no longer employed, other than sitting on my butt.

    Dont have access to "prefered automated discount" shipping for UPS or FedEx, from former employer.

    Then UPS is also a AH when it comes to a person without an account or non-ffl to ship anything. Not saying that FedEx is that much better.

    Therefore stuck with the old post office.

    I just shipped a Lone Ealge pistol USPS yesterday for $21 with insurance and delivery confirmation. Didn't think that was too bad.

    I don't receive any discounts, but I do ship at a UPS terminal, not a ups store, the question about a license only comes up concerning the recipient.

    Open an account online with US Post Office. Pay on line, print label and drop off at Post Office counter, or have carrier pick up. .
    There is no place online to enter SIZE of box, just gives rates with weight. Saves $$.

    If at all possible stay away from UPS stores they will add an additional 20% to the bill that is charged at the UPS terminal.

    I have been doing a lot of shipping from our (me and my brother) ebay auctions http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZsekonco1QQhtZ-1 (small plug [;)]). We were shipping USPS in fairly small boxes and the price was fair. Rates about doubled on most of the stuff we are shipping so now all we ship is Flat Rate Boxes and so far its been good but the boxes are way bigger then we need.

    I don't blame you for that policy, because costs have gotten nuts, but is it likely to reduce bidding? I know I personally won't bid on ANYTHING anymore without having at least an estimate on shipping cost. It seems the seller should at least offer a ballpark number. I don't mind bidding on an item with, say, $30 shipping when I can figure S&H as part of the bid -- then I have no reason to complain. Sooner or later, many buyers will decide to pass things without a shipping estimate. They might get caught with high (although legitimate)shipping once or twice, but I'll bet it will make them think twice about bidding on future items without an approximate cost listed.

    good deals on line are over folks.
    thank God i made my fortune off of it while the wave was cresting and befoee stupid rules and website emailing restrictions.
