Crate training a puppy.
I've been crate training a puppy. It's been doing very well. Does anyone know how long I should keep on training him?

Just leave the dog out of the crate for short periods of time alone. Gradually extend those times until the desired alone time for the dog is accomplished. 15 minutes alone then 1/2 hour then an hour then 2 and so on.

The dog should like the crate, it becomes their "space", and they will go in whenever they feel like it, the big trick is getting them to like the door being closed.........

My dog is seven months old now and she actually likes going in the crate at night to sleep. We now leave the door open for her and if she has to go in the middle of the night, she comes over to our bed and wakes us up to let her outside. If the crate or kennel is the right size, dogs feel very comfortable in their space, they feel safe and secure. The trick to crate training is as soon as you release the dog from the crate, get him or her right outside to do their business, don't bring them back inside until they do! If it is a younger puppy, make sure you give the dog lots of bathroom breaks between playing and socializing! 0 -

+1, Crate training is great for you and the dog. They will always want there crate once they get used to it, they feel secure.0 -

My "Bladder Boy"[:D] at 5 months old is still learning, but figuring it out.
The Potty zone first thing in the morning, every two hours during the day, and hour before bed time in the potty zone.0 -
I took my seven month old Lab to formal obedience class today. The first thing the trainer asked if are dogs were crate trained. If your not around to train your pup what kind of restraint can you use? The lady is over fifty years old, she took a two year old rot that was out of control, and made it do what she wanted it to do. The lady that owned the rot was thirty years old and was 150 lbs, she couldn't handle the dog. the trainer weighted in at 110 lbs .My Lab will sit, come, fetch. I want my Lab to be posoin and snake proofed. Thats why I took it to the class. BR why do you always ask why people crate thier dogs? 0 -
Never abandon the crate training completely. Always come back to it when you travel, or have friends over that don't like dogs, or the dog is sick. If the crate training goes well it will be a tool you can use for the dogs lifetime. It will feel safe and you will be happy. 0 -
We're on our 3 day of training. The puppy been wonderful. I don't even keep him in there that much. Just when I can watch him, but no accidents and he always goes when I take him out.
At night I let him sleep in my bed and he's always whines wakeing me up when he has to go.0 -
