Help me identify some "stuff"
Hate to take bobski's place, but the widow of a good friend of mine who died last year called me to come over and get some stuff she thought he thought I might want. He retired from the NG as a full bull colonel and had lots of military things lying around and in storage. I got nearly 500 rounds of 16 gauge sg shells, 15 boxes of 22 shorts, some 222 mag cartridges, and other assorted goodies. These I have no idea about.
The first looks like a 45 blank, but the box says "Grenade Auxiliary M7. Lot L.C.S. 12007"
Next is a clip of some sort, loaded with something.[:o)] The cartridges are stamped "DEN 43."
FINALLY...7 "hi-cap" mags of some sort. Only thing I can find stamped on them is "SPW GL C-153427". They are exactly 10 inches long, 1.5 inches wide, and 1 inch thick.

Grease gun mag...on the bottom. Some macs that came out a little over a year ago used them....
Don't know about the shells but that is a M1-garrand mag. Mine are both 30-06...but there are some 308s around.0 -

Locust Fork...thanks. I figured garand, but wasn't sure. Still not sure on the cartridges. The mags have been in storage for probably 20 years. They looked like the right size for a 45, but I don't have any 45's laying around to stick in them.0 -
The ammo in the garand clip are .30-06 blank rounds used for ceremonies, funerals, ect. Locust Fork is right the bottom are grease gun 30rd. mags. The top cartridge could be, but im not sure, the charge use when a grenade launcher is mounted on a rifle muzzle. This charge would be used to propel the grenade. 0 -
I dont think the top rounds are .45 acp since they have a rim. I dont know what they are.
Like the others have said the rifle round are for the M1 Garand and are some sort of blank round.

The mags are used in quite a few guns right now. There are some Mac 10 conversion using them. There is a GG lower made for the .45 Uzi and I have a .45 HK USC that has been converted to use these mags.0 -
Cartridge, Grenade, Auxiliary, M7: designed to give additional range when used in firing Rifle Grenades from Rifles or Carbines, with M1, M2, M7 and M8 Launchers . The cartridge is a caliber .45 draw piece loaded with 20 grains of powder (propellant) and sealed with a paper wad . When using this special cartridge, Rifle or Carbine will not be fired from the shoulder !
you would insert the case into the base of the launcher add the grenade use the standard blank cartridge to trigger the booster blank and increase the range of the launcher. it also upped the recoil so you could hurt youself if fired from the shoulder
Grenade, Auxiliary, M7
This special-purpose round was developed as a booster to obtain increased ranges and higher velocities with rifle grenades and ground signals fired from grenade launchers mounted on U.S. rifles and carbines. The name "vitamin pill" was given the cartridge during its development and clung to it since it has been made an item of standard issue.
Actually, the cartridge was a tube of drawn brass 0.45 inch in diameter and resembled in every way a caliber .45 blank cartridge, rimmed. There was a no primer but a hole was drilled through the center of the base. Both that hole and the mouth of the case were sealed by paper wads against the escape of the 20 grains of powder with which the cartridge was loaded.
The cartridge was inserted in the muzzle of the grenade launcher and retained there by the rimmed base. The flame of the regular grenade cartridge fired in the chamber of the rifle burned through the paper wad sealing the mouth of the case and igniting the auxiliary charge. The effect was that of a booster and the grenade was launched at greater speed and attained a range of from 100 to 150 yards above that to be expected when the grenade cartridge was used alone. The fired auxiliary cartridge was expelled from the launcher with the grenade.0 -

8 DEN 43 in a clip = 1 M-1 Garand clip of blank cartridges made at the DENver,CO arsonal in 1943.
BTW, Iconoclast is looking for 30-06 blanks for donation to various VFW's. It seems that the govt is running low, and the VFW's need them for funerals.0 -

The grease gun mags will probably go up on the auction side as soon as we get back from vacation. I have no use for them.0 -
FWIW,
Grenade launching blanks should not be used with a blank adaptor.

@iluvguns - thanks and I have sent you an eMail on the blanks / M7 loads.
I'm guessing the M7 package marking of "L.C.S" might be "Lake City" with the S designating steel. PURE WAG. I'll try to chase this down.
No comments on the identifications as I have nothing to add to those provided already . . . .
