Veterans in Ill must pass a pycho exam
I cannot find the article, but on the front page of todays Bloomington Illinois' Pantagraph, www.pantagraph.com , there was an article stating Illinois is going to be the first state in the Union to require it's Natioanl Guardsmen coming back from combat to take a mandatory psychological examination.
It's so the government can help those that are mentally sick.
These returning veterans have done NOTHING to receive such an indictment but Illinois is forcing them to prove they are not crazy.
I found this to be most interesting in conjunction with the Veterans Disarmament Act.

What gets me, or perhaps maybe its what I dont understand is the vets fought for the country, were perhaps injured, some were killed, lost families, friends and gave up almost everything in order to serve ....and what do they get in return?....

Beth...this is all about disarming the civilian fighting force. We are the ones that have the training and expertise necessary to keep Big Brother in check...0 -

Act they can haul you in keep you under observation for a specified amount of time against your will.

Considering the location, I am not surprised in the least. The perps of such an activity should be tried, convicted, and sentenced to the pen for attempting to demonize patriots, and strip them of their liberties.0 -
[V]yep..and i`ll bet this is only the start..and i only bet on a sure thing...you are all going to get screwed big time ...i have read a lot of the proposed firearms laws for you in the U.S, and i`m amazed at how they mirror what was proposed here!!!just remember, on your own the establishment will kill you and say you were just a phsyco...like the people from waco...but if you are given the chance to unite they will have no choice but to back down!!i dont think your government would be stupid enough to take on 50,000 + of you in the one place...something like that would blow your country apart and start another revolution..and that would be the last thing the establishment there would want!...good luck to you all, and may god be with you!..and yes, i do know what i`m talking about..i`ve already lived through it![V] 0 -

I thought you all would like to see the real figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent!) In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in "successfully ridding Australian society of guns."
You won't see this data on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the state Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience proves it. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's to late!
Also in Austria one must go through mental evaluation in order to purchase a gun..

Illinois Unveils Mental Health Services for Returning Guardsmen, Veterans

WASHINGTON, July 6, 2007 - All Illinois National Guard troops returning from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan now will be screened for traumatic brain injury and get access to post-traumatic stress disorder help under a new, first-of-its-kind state program.
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Tammy Duckworth, director of the state's Department of Veterans Affairs, announced the program earlier this week in Chicago.
The program includes mandatory traumatic brain injury screening for all returning National Guard combat veterans, voluntary screening for all other Illinois veterans, and a 24-hour toll-free psychological help line for veterans suffering from PTSD.
Blagojevich called the new services an important response to veterans' mental health needs.
"After they've given so much to protect our freedom, we should do everything we can to help them live productive and stable lives when they return home," he said.
Duckworth said she's proud to see Illinois set an example in how to care for returning combat troops. "The time is now to help our heroes who have fought for our freedoms, who have sacrificed their lives for us," she said. "We must, at the very least, make sure they all have access to the health and psychological care they deserve."
The Defense Department's latest Mental Health Task Force Report, released June 15, notes the department is working to improve screenings servicemembers receive for possible mental health problems.
"We've got these post-deployment questionnaires that you fill out when you leave theater," Dr. S. Ward Casscells, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, told reporters in announcing the report's findings.
"When I left Iraq, I filled out a questionnaire that said: `Were you near an (improvised explosive device) that went off? Are you having trouble sleeping? Are you having trouble controlling your feelings?' And so forth, and so on.
"A lot of people check `no' because they want to get home," Casscells said.
Questionnaires have been retooled so that "even if they check `yes,' they're going to get home and get the care when they get home," he said, adding that this will help promote more honest responses.
Follow-up care also is getting more emphasis, he said.
"We are getting some retired soldiers, including chaplains and psychologists, who are going to make it their business to contact people at six months and say, `I just want you to know that we haven't forgotten your service. I'm a veteran. And don't forget there are all these things available to you. And by the way, I'm here to talk to you. I struggled with this or that. And you can call me confidentially because I'm not in the chain of command,'" Casscells said.
"But we want to make sure that at six months, we've got everybody contacted," he said. "And so we are working toward that goal."0 -
Gentlemen, what is going to happen to gun owners if, say in the next 6 months, we have 4,5,6 nut cases who go into populated places and shoot the hell out of a lot of people.. What if several of them (shooter) are Vets? Then, we will have a few stressed out people who will kill our RTBA.
I have been around a schitzo and If I am diagnosed as nutzo, I hope that all my guns are taken away and I can't get hold of one.
I have been military for 25 years but if I go over the edge, for god's sake, don't let me kill or screw up ownership for the rest of you guys.
OK Short story: My mom was a nut(schitzo.paranorma? $something else: She was a VERY dangerous woman. She cracked my dad's skull one time with a paint can. After my dad had his leg amputated he decided to commit suiside rather than let my mom kill him, which he knew it would happen.

It's mandatory.
Yes, I'm sure some people need help and counseling but the potential of abuse by the politicians is huge.
Heck, why not have mandatory psychological examinations before high school graduation. I have a much bigger problem with this stuff than The Patriot Act or Guantanamo.
