Remington 7ooml 54cal
Does anyone have anything to say good or bad about the 54cal Remington muzzleloader, I have stumbled across a new one still in box but am a little leary of the 54cal are they as accurate as 50

I have one, it's stainless & 54 cal. It is very picky what it shoots. The only thing I can get a good group with is barns expander mz, 90 grains of ff black powder. They are hard to load also, even in a clean barrel. As far as the gun, it is well made, sort of a pain to clean up. The only problem I have had was when i did'nt clean the bolt, it did not fire. Bolt has to be taken apart and cleaned, which is no big deal, but it HAS to be cleaned. I thought about going to the 209 conversion but have had no problems with the # 11 caps. 0 -
I have looked at the Remingtons at the store, and I like the way they handle.
I have heard them criticized for being much more difficult to clean than other inlines.
I don't know how the accuracy compares, but .54 ammo is much harder to find than .50 caliber.0 -
I have one in 50 cal, and just converted it to shoot 209's. I had occasional issues with #11 caps. I think the nipple was either picky or the caps are just so mass produced that they wouldn't perform when needed.
Accuracy is splendid, and clean-up isn't too bad. I do the hot soapy water thing and let it air dry for a while, then give it the break free and run a lubed patch down the bore.
We'll see this weekend how the 209's do.0
