    Thanks for your help and answers. I have joined a Civil War reenactment group and I want the Confederate sidearm...the Remington. Some have the Colt and the expended primer has been a problem.

    If your going for Confederate then you should or could go brass frame but keep in mind that this will become loose over time.

    leech & rigdon, rogers & spencer, spiller & burr, griswold & gunnison, many confed repros available...lyman also made a remington repro...some older repros were put out by high standard...had a r& s repro in 44 by euroarms..well made, tight & inexpensive

    Most Union guns could be found in Confederate hands at any time during the American Civil War. Your best course would be to check with the unit you want to join. They will list weapons acceptable for use in that unit, and where you can find them at the best prices, and may even have some for sale (cheap) to new members.
    BTW, the Remington is a Yankee gun. Confederate guns listed above are correct, but I'd add the Lemat "grapeshot" revolver to the list.

    Just bought a CVA 1858 Remington New Army .44 caliber revolver, great pistol all blue steel with brass trigger guard, haven't got to shoot it yet but looking forward to it, you can also buy a .45 Long Colt conversion cylinder to authentic Cowboy Shooting if so inclined, pistol is made by Pietta, Cabelas sells them and you can buy extra cylinders there if you would like to do Outlaw Josey Wales imitation with quick reloads
