Carp
Their are alot of Carp in our lake. The DNR used to auction the rights to commercially fish for these. If they fell into a certain range[size etc.] they were sold to restaurants, mainly out east. Any one here catch these to eat?

Anyone bow fish these things? We really have some big females coming onto the shallows to spawn. Kinda neat to watch. One really big female with 6 or so smaller males following right behind her. Our local bait shop has arrows selling for $25 each[:0] 0 -
I catch a few here and there and hand them off to whoever is around that wants them. I have eaten carp, but not my top choice. 0 -
They are fished for commercially in some of the harbors and streams leading into lake erie. It's pickled and sold to Jews as Gifelthe fish. How carp is kosher I dunno, rooting around in the mud......
I've had it smoked once or twice. Never much liked it. Greasy, oily, whatever you wanna call it. A tad strong. Nothing like smoked salmon.0 -

Carp can be very good if fixed right, in the winter here in the midwest they put giant nets thru the ice and catch them.Big Market in parts of the US for them, I've had it several ways and it's good if fixed right. Fun to catch and good to eat.[:D][^] 0 -

If you take the red stipe uot of the sides and fillet them they are great fried or smoked. To fry try 1 cup cornmeal 1 cup flower 1 Tsp black pepper 1 Tsp cayenne and salt to taste,drizzle with lemon juice and roll in mix. To smoke soak in a mild brine overnight and pat dry before smoking. Remember carp are a lot of fun to catch so take a kid when you go after them, and they eat the same thigs as rainbow trout so how can they be a trashfish 0 -

When in Michigan , 1960's I caught them on a fly rod with canned corn kernels, in the Grand River. Lots of fun but never ate one. 0 -
We have carp in our pond, but I'm always fishing for bass, so they completely ignore my lures/worms. What's the best way to fish for them? I don't want to eat one, just hook it and reel it in. They're so big, I imagine the fight is good.

I used to catch Big ones in a lake where i grew-up. I wrapped them in news paper, then after frozen, i'd hack them up and bait my "fike" nets.I cought some big-azz snappin-turtles on'em!![;)]

I have a carp reciepe you might want to try: Clean and scale carp, pre heat oven 350, cover fish with bread crumps, tie to pine board with twine, bake uncovered for sixty min, cut twine, throw away carp and eat the board. 0 -

Kids used to use corn and caught more than you can imagine. Wife used to use them as tomatoe plant fertilizer. Tomatoes never tasted fishy! 0 -
