Punched a hole thru the ice today
Well, I punched a hole thru the ice today with a length of pipe. Just to see if I could do it. No way I'm going to buy one of those motorized rigs for drilling a hole in the ice a few times a year!

About how much is one of those? I have been wanting to get started ice-fishing for awhile. 0 -
i think they are like 70 bucks for 8" ones, I don't like the 6" ones its hard to get saugeye out of the hole because you catch your line on the bottom of the hole with thicker ice. Blades are easy to sharpen and easy to replace. 0 -
a "hand auger" can be had for around 20-40 NEW (depending on what size hole you want)
around here..."used" gas ones can be found in the 150-200 range. which is well worth the money when you have 20"+ of ice to get threw and its -10* outside...

yeah, I am used to going through 4-8 inch ice. I have went through 12 inch before, but damn i was tired.0
