Member email.
It would be helpful if members would have a working email attached to their names so that we can contact them. I moved a new member's post from GD to AE but when I emailed to tell him that's where could find his post the message bounced back. Now this guy will come back and not find his thread.
I guess some people don't want to give out an email address or get messages but it's better if we can reach you. Like in this instance.

Huh? I have no such link here and I still managed to get two e-mails from GB moderators: ECC (who's letter I deleted without reading) as well as the moderator who had his door kicked in during the frantic search last year to see if he were still alive, Iconoclast (who's letter I did read and enjoyed).0 -
I started out using my private mailadress for mails - and for Gunbroker.
When I started receiving spam sent through gunbroker - that crap just had to stop.
Now it ends up in a garbage-bin on a mailadress I never check.
So unless you can guarantee that there will be no spam sent... I, for one, won't do that.

Besides - to obtain a forum-membership, you need an active emailadress.
When you register, you can say yes or no, wether you want other members to be able to send mails to you through the board.
That option on the member in question, is probably set to "No".
Either that, or his spam-guard is set tight.0 -

Or you can do like the member in question... and me... and avoid it all together.
Had 3-4 mails of "legitimate" nature - out of possibly 30-40 mails.
So when 9 of 10 is spam... What would YOU do. ?!?0 -
If there is some huge desire for friendly chit-chat with the rank and file by the GB staffers then why not look into adding a private mesaage feature? I'd estimate that two thirds of on line forums have this available and it is handy. 0 -

That's even a standard feature of "SNITZ Forum"-code - it's just disabled here.
Probably because of the member-count and the space it would take up on the servers.

If you receive an email from someone on the board, it comes from the forum-program itself - which is seen as an online automated mailservice, and is in actuality just a mail-ability the forum has, sent through a mailserver that the admin puts in.
Some spamfilters remove such the mails immediately, as they're usually just Spam-mails - like many other online generated mails.
But they come from the same mail-service - but with the "Reply-To"-emailadress of the one who sent it.
So you get it from "example@gunbrokerforum.com" or something like that - and when you hit reply - it goes straight to the emailadress of the member who sent the mail, like "member123@yahoo.com"
You receive it from one adress - and replies to another adress.
It's simple coding that allows programs like forums to keep confidentiality, until a member chooses to email another member.
So yes, you can block "example@gunbrokerforum.com" - but then you wouldn't get any mails at all, no matter who wrote the mails.
Simply because you block the sender.
If you blocked a specific user - the mail would go though anyway, because it's coming from "example@gunbrokerforum.com".
Now, you MIGHT be able to block the "Reply-To"-adress - but that's a little bit harder to do in most cases.0 -
