Who thinks Dale Jr. should leave D.E.I? He wants 51% ownership of the Co. next season or he's leaving.
I really don't blame him....I would go too.

    Is this some kind of dynamic scoring, like claims Obamacare will cost less than 2 trillion dollars..

    Hope it continues. After last year I said I wasn't going to follow NASCAR anymore but I got sucked in last weekend with the 100 hours of coverage on the Speed Channel. Watched the first race today before going to work. Good race. Can't wait for the 500.

    I figured he would do alot better now that Teresa E. isn't sabotaging(sp?) him and he drives for Hendricks. I guess Hendricks and the Toyotas are the teams to beat Sunday. I was really surprised to see how well the Gibbs Toyotas did today with Hamlin and Smoke coming in 1st and 2nd.

    Well I'm no big Jr. fan but I respect what his dad accomplished. R.I.P. Dale. My youngest son graduated in the same H.S. class as #24. That said, our family tends to favor #24.

    Can't help but think what happend within the team of D.E.I. last year. Are you correct war? I don't know, but he had a lot of N.N.F.'s last year. What a b***h! Sr. must be rolling over in his grave.

    Toyota & NASCAR just doesn't seem right. Are we, as a country, giving everything away?

    I'll be at Bristol. Have been, for 15 years or so. Hope an American teams wins.

    Any of you folks going?

    Well, it's very ironic that the week after Jr. announces he is leaving D.E.I, Martin Truex Jr. wins a race and there after Dale Jr. has blown motor after blown motor and Truex Jr. has the best season of his life. I won't say she intentionally sabotaged Dale, but I do think she started focusing more on Truex and just quit on Dale Jr.
    As far as the Toyotas, hell the more the merrier. They will only make the other teams step up.

    On the other hand, look at how well Ricky Craven did at Hendricks and how Jr. won 6 races in 2004 with DEI while his partners did about squat. I think if you put a good driver with the right equipment you see results. If either is good and the other not then you see a whole lot of nothing.

    I think it's mostly about the equipment. The drivers are all professionals. When you see a car pass another on the staight away, it's less about the driver than the equipments and the team that set it up.

    True, but when Craven drove the 25 he theoretically had the same equipment as Gordon and did squat while Gordon lit it up. And Jr. won six races in 2004 while his partners struggled. So some of it has to be the driver.

    Hope no one gets to offended,but if I was in Teresa Earnhart's shoes, I'd have done the same thing.The best test place is on the track and Jr's leaving DEI made him the guinea pig.I alway's thought Jr was a little whinner,and now he's joined the big club with Jimmy and Jeff.Nascar bites anymore,more about rules and money than it is about racing.

    In today's NASCAR, the skill of the driver is not as important as the equipment, pit crew, crew chief and the money spent on that team. They can ALL drive a dang car! Teresa started investing more time, effort and equipment into "her" future with Truex being her new franchise driver. Once Dale made his decision, yes, he became the quinea pig. He was expendable and I think he realized it as the season ended. But, with Jimmy Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Dale, Hendricks is arguably the "elite" team in NASCAR. Atleast it has the biggest fan base with those three drivers, thus making it the biggest money maker for NASCAR.

    Now take them big and heavy cup cars and throw them on a road course. Then you will see the best "drivers" throw the car around and come to the front. They need to have more road courses on the schedule.

    Yep, I guess ASSCAR needs to make the rules more restrictive, the cars more similiar, and drive up the cost of R&D to the point where even Hendrick won't bother paying for it.

    How spends the most for R&D?
    Hendrick.

    Who wins the most?
    Hendrick.

    Everytime ASSCAR makes the rules more restrictive on the car and body with the intent of reducing costs, all they are doing is driving up the cost of R&D for teams to find tht little edge. Teams like Petty gave up on paying a long time ago. Teams like Petty cry about franchises. Teams like Petty despise open competition. ASSCAR doesn't care so much about open competition off the track either.

    Less rules, not more will make the races more entertaining to watch.

    lj, I bought a travel trailer last year and camped at the night race last year for the first time. There is a new campground between Johnson City (where I am locked into the Red Roof Inn for the spring) and Bristol. Really nice campground B.T.W.

    41, I am half way up, mid 1st turn, on the isle - great seats. I've had them for about 15 years. Put 2 of my 4 tickets on E-bay last night. My wife and daughter-inlaw can't go.

    We used to camp at Farmer Bob's right across the street from the track. It's just a cow pasture most of the year with no electric sites but he does have some with water hookup's. It get's pretty rowdy but they have a quiet family section. The folks that own it are real good people. Watch where you camp because some of the campgrounds don't allow open fires. We learned that the hard way first time we camped for the spring race. We brought a rick of wood, started a fire, and the campground nazi's came down and told us to either put it out or leave. That was before I bought an RV so we had a tent and it got down to the low 20's. About never got thawed out. Jeff,if you ever go to any races at the Kentucky Speedway there's a good campground we found last year. Let me know and I'll get you some info on it.

    wrench, might take you up on the info. I just might retire (again) this year and travel the rest of the year. My son camped in that campground adjacent to the track a few times. I forget the name - "Big or Red something" maybe. It's $100. and they don't care what you do. I met him one year to have a few beers. 8 hours later I deceided to sleep in my car. Some say that I passed out but that's a big lie!

    Jeff, Here is the link. The owner told us about a shortcut to take after the IRL race last summer and it only took about 10 minutes to get back and that was with all the race traffic. They have electric and some of the sites are close together but not any worse than some of the state park campsites we've stayed at. Last year it was only $35/night and they had a chili cook-off the night before the race.

    Well, come on boys, boogitty boogitty boogitty! NASCAR is not and never has been about road racing. They have that kind of racing in other places. Throw them cars on Daytona and see who goes to the front. Its about heavy big block engines in (formerly stock) American cars (formerly) going damn fast in a somewhat circle and outlasting the other heavy--you know.And trying to miss all those other crazies sliding around at any moment all over the track. Any of you who thinks it doesn't take skill should go down to Charlotte, pays your money and take a ride. When you get your pants cleaned out maybe you won't be so critical. All that said, NASCAR racing is certainly not what it once was, but what is? It started out pretty much as stock cars, then a little juicing and tinkering to go faster and win and faster faster faster--there had to be rules or it would be mayhem. We don't live in Rome, hell I don't even live in Georgia. I grew up in a town that had one of the original dirt tracks, and the longest, and the last one to see a NASCAR race on dirt. I saw that one too. It's now on the Historical Registry. My dad played poker with Bill France. I saw most of the greats on a dirt track when skill and muscle and horsepower were all that counted, and the only time tires were changed was when you had a flat. I haven't been too happy with it in the last few years but it is what it is, the most attended sporting event in the world. Oh yeah it is about money. If you look back at the 1960s-70s you will see that the winner of a major race might take home a purse of $5-8 thousand dollars. What did Newman win the other day, $1.5 million I think. Anyhow, even though I don't really like some of these new guys, they do something most of us can't do, and if they weren't good they wouldn't be there. So a little respect please. But more for the old guys.
