Made a kid cry today ....
Read 'Almost got into a fight today' by Dano, this morning and thought to myself, "Self, there might have been a time I would have done that ... but, not now."
About a half hour ago I heard some unseen woman scream, "Stop! Stop! ... he's got my purse!" as I was walking from Long's Drugs to Von's (Supermarket). They share a huge common parking lot. She was in front of the market I was headed for.
About five seconds later, a kid - about 15/16 came flying right at me with what looked like a purse tucked under his arm - making a dash for the end zone (where ever that was)! I was doing the 'oblivious old guy shuffle' from my company Jimmy, that I had just parked.
As he rocketed past me - sure that he was home free - I reached out and grabbed his jacket color with my left hand - which jerked him off his feet - purse went flying - and as I was still holding on to him, the surprised kid bounced up and took a swing at me.
I avoided his swing - laughed and said, "I hope you've got good medical insurance (that's all that most of us old farts talk about most of the time)! I still held on to his collar with my left and had balled up my right (with one of those, "I'm gonna send you to the Promised Land fists") and damned if the kid didn't bust out in tears!
Another guy, about 40, had run up behind me and also grabbed him at that moment - the kid knew he was finished.
A couple of market guys ran up and held him as I had some serious shopping to do - which I did - gave the cops a statement as I left and came home for my Friday afternoon nap.
... I gotta admit, something like that hasn't happened for a long time!
Amazing, Dano, how quickly things happen sometimes. Still don't know if I would have popped the kid or not ... since the purse was relatively safe on the ground closer to me than him. ... we'll never know.

He kinda pulled me aside - with one of those incredulous expressions - after I had given him my statement. He asked me, "You actually asked him if he had good medical insurance!??"
I said, "Yes. I know it's not what Clint Eastwood would have said ... but it was the best I could come up with at the moment."

Last week in Toronto a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the subway in broad daylight. One guy intervened and struggled with the assailant but he had trouble restraining the puke. Others looked on including a few young healthy bussines types who did nothing except watch inspite of the guy yelling at them to come and give him a hand. The puke broke free and ran off. Pretty sad. Too bad Zipper wasn't there. 0 -

I know someday I'm going to get my butt beat by a young buck, but as far as I'm concerned, I refuse to be a victom or a coward do nothing citizen. I'm gonna take some kind of action and hope that when I'm over powered, someone else will step in to help. To heck with criminals not being challenged, and to heck with teaching citizens to do nothing and accept being a victom. The young men of this country (not those who serve in the military) are turning into cowards because they are told to submit and not to fight.

CONROE, Texas -- A Montgomery County sheriff's deputy lost his job and is facing criminal charges, accused of forcefully disciplining a teenage boy, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.
The former deputy was working a second job at a private school in Conroe when the Montgomery County District Attorney said the deputy tried to scare the boy into better behavior.
The district attorney's office said Monte Morast, 51, was indicted on charges of official oppression and unlawful restraint.
KPRC learned that Morast has a program at Conroe's Excel Academy, where he works with students with discipline problems.
Investigators are looking into allegations that after being called to the school, Morast threw a teenage boy to the ground and handcuffed him.
Investigators said that Morast took the boy to the Montgomery County jail and allowed inmates to order the boy to strip naked and applied Vaseline to his backside.
KPRC Local 2 tried to speak with Morast.
"I knew you guys would come looking. No comment," he said.
According to the district attorney's office, an official with the boy's private boarding school was also there.0 -
