Would $3.50/gal gas change your actions?
On TV I've seen several gurus predict this for 2008.
Personally I would try to use the Ram pickup less. Also I would try to cut down on all those short little trips.

i down sized my run around cars years ago, went to four cylinder engines with fuel injection and went to stick shift transmissions, and take the belt off the air condition units in the fall and run the air in the tires a little high. and try to plan my trips to get the most done on that trip. our three run around cars get between 30-34 MPG. my only gas hog is my hunting truck and i,m not going to give it up, i quit smoking 35 years ago when cigs went from .30 to .35 cents a pack so i don,t care if gas goes to 10.00 a gallon. there are things you just must have. eastbank. 0 -
$3.50 a gallon gas would only cause me to write bigger checks when the bills come in. I can't drive less than I do now, and I won't downsize vehicles. Both are paid for, and I can buy a lot of gasoline for the cost of a car payment. 0 -
And I do ALL my bill paying on line. I very rarely ever have to use a stamp. Only for something that can only be mailed.
I finally converted my neighbor to do same. She would even drive 15 miles to town, to pay her light bill and write checks and mail for many more. And it is just so much easier. Tom0 -
I believe that the gas prices, medical costs, insurance rates and vehicle prices are jacked up because we are all allowing the companies to do so. I don't know how to administer a nationwide boycott on these companies, but that is what it would take. They are just doing what we allow them to do. 0 -
It's just Supply and Demand. In my business, I sell all of my equipment for as much as I can get out of it. It's not what it's worth, It's what you can get sell it for. I dont blame the gas companys one bit. Of course, I have a few bulk plants in my area in which I have sold a few forklifts to. 0 -

...and what about them getting together and all charging the same so that you pay about the same wherever you go? Gas is the most profitable business on this planet.0 -

Seriously, comparing $3.50 a gallon gas (in 2008 dollars) to $1.50 gas (in 1974 dollars)- it's a bargain. No, I don't want to pay more for ANYTHING than I have to- but the price of gas has not kept up with inflation for several years. Anyone here remember buying a new car- for $3 grand- in the late 60's? That is my point! You said you don't blame them for charging as much as they can. But they price fix, which is an unfair practice. Especially for a comodity that is required to exist.
Gas IS the most profitable line of business. Look at the RECORD profits that all the oil companies are making. Inflation adjusted or not, they are making more profit now than they ever have.
I have no problems with capitalism, just unfair business practices that hurt 98% of the citizenship.0 -
there is a gas station here in town that is selling gas for $3.25 a gallon now. $3.50 would probally not change my driving habits . i am already driving a 6 cylinder car that gets about 25-30 mpg 0 -
3.50 will be a special in about 6 months . I look for unleaded to go for $4 + per gallon by summer. 0 -
As with most things, people will get used to the price difference and adjust. I might share a ride with some co-workers to the office from time to time WHEN it gets to 4.00. 0 -

+1. Have already cut out 90% of un-nessisary driving. Have to drive to/from work. And weekly grocery shopping. Beyond that, fuel consumption and current fuel prices ARE considered when thinking of recreational trips. To the point that most are not taken. What else can we do?
Every holiday we hear AAA and the Govt. tell us that we just haven't learned yet. Going to be RECORD amounts of people traveling. Personally, I think they are full of BS.0 -
I have a 30+ mpg vehicle, I ride the bus. The bus is $4 round trip and driving is $7+. i'll spend a little extra time getting home. $14+ a week savings is a trip or two to the range on the weekends. 0 -
My Explorer gets 15 MPG on good day and uses midgrade gas or it knocks. I would ride the bus, but I have to stop at the office for work and pick up the site keys, also the transit police are territorial about firearms on their buses and I carry open for work. I did do one thing, I am now spending the extra hour to pick up a car for my long trips for work on Sundays. I get home 1/2 hour later but it saves me 20 miles on my car. 0 -
Like many have mentioned, gas prices already have changed my actions. I own a S10 Blazer and don't get the best gas mileage, so I drive it to work and home and park it for the rest of the time(unless the weather is really bad out). When we need to go somewhere we take the girlfriends Saturn Ion which gets between 30-35 mpg. Once we get the Ion paid off, I am going to look into getting something that gets 30+ mpg for myself and just keep the Blazer for bad weather.

When I was young it was 20 cents. Took me 12 minutes to earn enought for a gallon. When I retired last year, it took me 3 minutes to earn that gallon. Aw for the good old days.

It's already affected a future decision. I'm buying about a 500-700cc bike to drive back and forth to work when the weather is decent. It'll make my drive shorter, and it'll take less gas per mile. I just have to worry about riding on a mile of gravel, on a really crappy stretch of road. 0 -

It might affect my actions. I'll probally get a little Honda for a daily driver as work is far away. If it gets to outragous I might have to go back offshore so I can get a company truck/company gas card. 0 -

I won't change anything except to pay larger fuel bills, and attempt to reduce number of trips into fewer.

nope. i need my vehicle to get back ane forth to work and what not. i way to far away from paying off my truck to consider that an option. my shifts start to early to consider public trasportation. im over a barrel. charge me whatever you like, i'll pay it. 0 -

I already drive as little as possible. To work, from work. Try to piggyback the weekly trip to the store onto the drive home, toward the end of the week. Go shooting/hunting/fishing six miles from the house. Not a whole lot else. 0 -

Same here, if im going to worry about an extra few bucks to do the things I need or want to do id quit smoking and renting movies and few other things! I see on the news when they interview John doe and the price of gas went up 10cents a gallon and he is cancelling his vacation or camping trip, Whats that like 2$ more for a full tank?
