Watkins Glen BOG
Anybody remember the bog at the track and the wars they had back in the 70s? burning cars and once a greyhound bus, just an all out riot, tear gas and cops with clubs. Crazy days[:0]

I was there!!!
My family made the trip up there from the Washington D.C. area every year, from mid 50's thru the early 70's. I went off to Military Academy (in N.Y.) in late 1971, and actually missed the peak of the craziness, but in the years leading up to it, I was there every year. The Canadian kids could come down and get drunk at age 18, instead of waiting till they were 21 as required in Canada.
Many were so hung over/still drunk that they either slept through the race, or were too sick to go/remember.
We have photos of incredibly tall totems - poles with a crossbar from which hung four of six lines on which they had suspended columns of beercans - fifty feet high!
Back when we started going, to watch the USGP, there was only a simple farmers style fence between parts of the track and the fans. You could walk into the garage paddock without any passes. Women were frowned upon if they tried to get into the pits.0 -
No.

We live just over the hill to the south. My sons can hear the cars when they're running. We're a bit too far away.
Civilization has struck with a heavy hand at the track. Lots of beer drinking and parties, but John Law holds the reins pretty tightly.0 -
I wore a tee shirt that read "WHAT RACE" and bikes and old cars were running in the camping areas like wild men, before they componeded the bikes. Its family camping only today, in your camper/tent by 11:00 pm
