Thoughts on a "painted" gun
Anyone ever felt the urge to camo up one of their rifles?
I'll admit to thinking about it, once or twice. I just never could go through with it.
This fella seems to do some pretty cool work though, I must admit.

I am all about refinishing guns in solid colors. Never been much of a camo fan though. I am working on DuraCoating a Mosburg 500 and some Sten mags. 0 -

Here's mine that I painted up for coyote hunting. Krylon matte colors and matte clear. Once the snow melts I can strip it in 10 mins with a can of brake cleaner and have a nice black rifle again. 0 -
I will agree that there is a place for camo guns...

Don't laugh, but about 20 years ago I bought one of those "Destroyer Carbines" from some mail order outfit for like $69. I had a smith open the bolt face a tad and I shoot .38 Supers in it (nearly the same dimensions as the 9MM Largo except for the rim). It's a fun little rifle but the stock was in awful shape. It was stained and discolored so I painted it to resemble a sort of desert camo pattern. Folks ridicule it but I still think it's fun. 0 -

I had an extra SKS stock, so I sanded it off and glued on an old advantage (tm) camo shirt, cut off the extra with a razor blade as I went. looked perfect, but then I put a layer of shellac over it and roughed it up so it wasn't so shiny. the glue made it a lot darker than it was supposed to be.
sold the SKS along with that extra stock and the dude that bought it thought it was pretty good.0 -

Not my cup of tea; as a traditionalist I prefer my gun's metal to be blued, and my gun's stock to be wood. But if it floats your boat, go for it- just don't paint it pink! I hate the guys who do that- and a fair number of match shooters have their guns painted up in the most godawful 'space gun' profiles. 0 -
Well I guess there's still some folks that I can leave my guns out on the bench in front of that won't pick 'em up and get 'em all figerprinty!
I've always thought that I buy my guns to please ME, and nobody else; that's why I can paint 'em, or shellac the heck out of them, or even add really big and clunky scopes and lights and attachment systems, and still go out and shoot 'em without a single guilty thought.
I painted 3 of my SKSs in various schemes, 2 AKs got the testor's treatment, a Ruger 77MKII got the "jungle" camo with tiger stripes and everything, and I even painted up a Grendel P30 in urban camo. It's too easy.
I use testor's model paint so that I can remove all traces of paint with MPro-7 and a toothbrush. Krylon isn't really sunproof; I've had it flake and peel off of plastic forends and it shouldn't be sprayed on the grips.[xx(]
I generally use a Q-tip for a paintbrush because the blending of the colors is what makes camo hard to see, and tight, tiny lines with sharp edges don't really blend that well.0
