    I have a unfair advantage as I am a frequent flyer[:D] When it asks the number of long and short flights per year I put a very consevative # of 40 and 10.

    Only 38 here.[V] Second winter in a row now, that we a freezing our nads off here in CO. I think if the coal fired plant 30 miles west of here would remove all their filters it might help warm things up. But maybe not. Sure makes it expensive to heat the 1100 sq.ft. home I live in. Already had the last 2 months over $300 each. [:(!]Usually wouldn't hit that until this month.

    According to The Nature Conservancy I create 30 tons per year.

    I want to pick a few nits:

    The Nature Conservancy gives me no credit for the wife and my eating one dead cow per year. This reduced the bovine flatulence which they consider to be a major problem. Dead cows don't fart.

    Everything I eat is organic. Who eats non-organic food? What might those foods be? I don't think I really want to know.

    The Nature Conservancy flatly state "each of us contributes to the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing climate change". That may or may not be true, but I don't think it can be stated as a fact yet.

    The Nature Conservancy says "The choices we make in our homes, our travel, the food we eat, and what we buy and throw away can help ensure a stable climate for future generations". Assuming they are correct about the cause of climate change, I seriously doubt that individual actions will have any affect on it.

    I think the idea of "carbon footprints" are another means for liberal "environmentalists" to feel good about themselves...

    I'm still not sure why having a higher "footprint" is seen as badge of honor on here......

    Are we expected to self contratulate each other for dumping used motor oil in the backyard?

    This may not be a popular stance on this subject........but i really dont care....... They have made SUCH A BIG DEAL of THIS. Oh, sure i dont litter, and i try to be responsible in my use of materials(mostly from a economic standpoint). I'm just so sick of this. Like I'm supposed to feel guilty for my use of natural resources. People who worry about this stuff have TOO much time on their hands. Reminds me of the story i read this past summer about a guy that refused to use toilet paper. Some degree of insanity there. Lets all follow Al Gore.........., yeah right!!

    took the test two times once by my self, got 29 tons, way over, then took it again with two members in the household, answered the questions the same as before and got 38 tons way below. go figure

    I got a 26. But the test is flawed in many ways. It asked how many bedrooms in my house. Well there is supposed to be 4 but 3 are used for storage and are not heated and the rest of the house has not been above 55 all winter. My number would be much lower because of that.

    I think carbon footprint is the next tax. You will be charged for your carbon usage.

    I call BS on this one. I put my info in, for Indiana. Then changed it to Colorado, ND, SD, FL, WI, WY, MN, et.

    Indiana had the highest number.

    Much of one's "Carbon Footprint" has to do with where one lives, at least according to some of the calculators I've seen

    People living in states with high numbers of "dirty" power plants are going to have a higher footprint than folks who live in states without.

    Want a lower footprint? Move to a state that is a power importer.
    Higher? Move to a state that exports electricity

    Note to self: Start dumping used oil around the backyard fence to keep the grass from growing there. The less I use that poluting weed eater the better.[}:)]

    Apologies RO, I know you are serious about this. I look at it as another money scam like y2k. Anyway, colder than a miner's peter in the klondike here, for 2nd year in a row, so I'm on the cyclical bandwagon. They are starting to bounce the idea of "carbon taxx" around. The govt. never wants to be left out.
